Tutu and Ballet News

Darling, did you hear the latest fashion scandal? It’s tutu-ally outrageous! Apparently, the Royal Ballet are staging a revolutionary new production of Swan Lake and, gasp, they've gone and chucked the tutus! Honestly, these Bolshoi-ers are absolutely bonkers!

Now, I know what you're thinking - a tutu-less ballet? How can they possibly even call it a ballet without the most quintessential ballet staple? Well, I, for one, am absolutely fuming! Do these upstarts realise the weight of history and fashion they're throwing out the window? The iconic tutus that graced the stages of Covent Garden, that epitomise elegance and femininity - all relegated to a dusty costume trunk. I'm surprised they haven't gone and chucked the tutus altogether, or maybe substituted them for… heaven forbid, a pair of joggers! Just think of it! Tights and track pants! How ghastly!

According to a rather overzealous representative from the ballet, "We wanted to go for a more contemporary look," (eye roll) "Something more grounded and earthy, in touch with the realities of today's society.”

Realities of today’s society? Give me a break. If they wanted “reality,” they should’ve made everyone wear jeans and jumpers, but no, that would actually be an exciting and fresh look! Now they're talking about wearing… wait for it… a “unique and innovative” combination of Lycra and silk! Can you believe it? It’s enough to make your stomach flip!

Listen darling, ballet is an art of exquisite beauty and refinement, where elegance reigns supreme. It's about shimmering satin and voluminous tulle, delicate dance steps that whisk us away from the mundane into a realm of pure artistry. These daring dance designers want us to believe Lycra is the way forward, but darling, everyone knows that nothing is more elegant and inspiring than a good old-fashioned, swirling, puff-perfect tutu. Now, pass me the smelling salts!

But fear not my darling, all is not lost in this world of changing styles! The tutus will return. There is something incredibly comforting about a traditional tutu, a fluffy halo of femininity and classicism, reminding us of simpler times when elegance was non-negotiable. Now, please excuse me while I search my antique stores for the finest vintage tutu. I just know this revolutionary movement will be over soon, and it's high time to prepare myself for the inevitable tutu revival!

Besides, we'll always have the Bolshoi!

A quick fashion rundown on what's truly tutu-rific and what's a complete ballet faux pas:

  • Must Have: An arsenal of fabulous tutus for every occasion: A black tulle, a white pouffed-out ballerina tutu, and a whimsical pastel masterpiece, preferably in a color to match your mood.
  • No way, no how! Those "modern" Lycra ensembles! Just because it's flexible, doesn't mean it's fashionable darling. It's all about opulence and flamboyance. We have an international dance society to uphold!
  • Always remember: When it comes to dance wear, you’re not a simple dancer, you are a vision of elegance, and therefore a diva in training. Wear clothes that exude that.
  • On your to-do list: Start planning a fabulous "tutu-tastic" tea party to celebrate the upcoming tutu revival, and spread the word, darling. Ballet must stand by its history and traditions!

Remember my darlings, a good tutu never goes out of style!
