Tutu and Ballet News

Oh darlings, buckle up for this! Today, June 2nd 2002, marks a momentous day in the history of… well, the history of the world, really! And no, it’s not about another reality TV show finale (quelle horreur!). It’s about tutus, those gloriously impractical, utterly fabulous frills of femininity that grace our stages and make our hearts soar. And guess what, my dears? The Tutu Society has announced today is *Tutu Tuesday*! That’s right, a whole day devoted to the glorious tulle, the delicate layers, and the pure magic that a tutu, let's be honest, absolutely demands.

For those of you who are yet to be enlightened by the ethereal power of a tutu, allow me to enlighten you. This magical garment is much more than just a puffy skirt. It is, quite frankly, an art form in itself. Each layer of tulle, painstakingly crafted, tells a story of graceful pirouettes, majestic leaps, and expressive gestures.

This year’s *Tutu Tuesday* festivities kicked off this morning in London, where, I hear, the entire cast of the Royal Ballet, yes even the male dancers (dressed in very dapper suits, darling!), are parading down the street. I have it on good authority there's been an unexpected surge in demand for the good old-fashioned, non-alcoholic Buckfast tonic this morning – I imagine it’s for their celebratory champagne breakfast, and, well, who can blame them! I mean, a Tutu Tuesday doesn't come along everyday!

Across the globe, my loves, the world is embracing this enchanting tradition. There are whispers of the Eiffel Tower being adorned in a giant, glistening pink tutu. You heard right, the Eiffel Tower! Apparently, there's going to be a *Ballet by the Seine* show for the whole evening, featuring French ballerinas (you just know it will be all about *pas de bourrees* and impossibly graceful arms, darling). Just picture the scene: the twinkle lights against the Seine, the city shimmering with Parisian charm, and everyone in their best tutus, naturally. *Sighs* A girl can dream.

And, I hear it on the grapevine (whisper it very quietly, loves), even the Queen ( bless her, she's such a sweet little lamb) is going to celebrate. She’s requested the Royal Ballet to do a special performance of The Sleeping Beauty. Oh my god, darling, don't even get me started on those glorious costumes. *Dreams away for a few moments*…I think I'll have a long soak in my bubble bath and dream of *pointe* shoes, tiaras and swirling skirts this evening, my loves.

There is no place I’d rather be today than nestled amongst the layers of tulle and shimmering sequins of a grand theatre, watching the world come alive on the stage. So my dearest loves, enjoy your day, channel your inner ballerina, and let your inner twirl take over!

What to do for your own personal Tutu Tuesday:
  • If you’re lucky enough to be a ballerina, well, you have it made! Just wear your beautiful tutu to work, practice your *port de bras*, and watch everyone gasp at your exquisite elegance. It doesn’t get better than that!
  • If you’re, like me, hopelessly and divinely fabulous yet somewhat tutu-deprived, then don’t you worry darling! I've got a plan for you. Get out your most amazing, glitzy, flowy skirt (the longer, the better!). Make yourself a delightful mocktail and turn on your favourite classical music. Let your skirt swirl with the rhythm of the music and, don’t forget to point your toes, love. And hey, a little pretend *arabesque* here and there? Go for it!
  • If you’re, God forbid, one of those, *ugh*, *athletic types* , just stick on a tutu over your tracksuit darling! You can still get in on the fun. And who knows, maybe one day we’ll have *Tutu Tuesday* for athletes! Then the boys will get to wear their shiny tights too…

Whatever your chosen style or *en pointe* (haha) method for celebrating, darling, remember: every day should be a little bit of *Tutu Tuesday* ! You are all beautiful, strong and, let’s be honest, utterly fabulous. Enjoy your day, my lovely loves, and, above all else, TWIRL!
