Tutu and Ballet News

Darling, gather round! Let's talk about tutus! The subject, I know, makes some people gag. Too frilly? Too fluffy? Oh, my dears, you're simply missing the point. The tutu, as my dear mother would say, is "the perfect embodiment of feminine grace and ethereal charm, a whirlwind of swirling tulle, a vision of delightful whimsy".
A sentiment I have to disagree with! My dear mother also thinks a nice casserole is the way to a man's heart and she makes a heavenly casserole but when it comes to fashion, her insights tend to lag behind! The tutu is about SO much more than dainty fluff and dainty dances! Don't you understand, it's an emblem of daring, a statement piece of sheer, unbridled joy!
Yes, a tutu's inherent playfulness can certainly be an enchanting sight, however its evolution as an outfit from its origins in the 19th century has a lot more grit than one might think. The ballet world in the 19th century was no dainty garden. The romantic ballet was all about emotionally complex dramas! A tutu's shortness was as much a mark of scandal as it was of the liberation from the restrictive crinolines of the day.

To demonstrate what I mean darling I've gone ahead and concocted some news items, a bit of scandalous fiction to be clear. Because I adore a little bit of satire darling! We must have a good laugh sometimes don't you think?
Today's News:

  • London's Covent Garden is embroiled in scandal following a controversial performance of Swan Lake last night. During the notorious White Swan's pas de deux with her princely love, her tutu appeared to... well it appeared to have a mind of its own. After seemingly losing a ruffle here and there in the heat of passion, it seems the White Swan's tutu ultimately went where no ballerina's tutu has gone before, ending up in an unholy union with the Swan's leg, thus causing unbridled laughter amongst the assembled crowds and forcing a mid-performance intervention by a somewhat bemused stage manager.
  • We can exclusively report that this year's "Tutu-A-Thon," an annual charity event where brave donors dare to be different, has sparked controversy this year. As well as the expected number of ladies willing to sport fluffy pastel tulle, this year has seen a record number of men daring to participate. Is this a shift in the world of fashion or just an excuse for men to be crotchety about frilly fabrics we don't know but the internet certainly thinks so.

Of course, one shouldn't be afraid of a bit of laughter, dear! If it means that we start to look at the tutu less as a mere fashion piece and more as a tool for expressing emotion then by all means, let the laughs flow!
