Tutu and Ballet News

Darlings! It's me, your favourite ballet-loving fashionista, and let me tell you, the world of dance has gone completely bonkers! Apparently, **01 August 2002**, was **National Tutu Day**. Who knew?

Honestly, I only found out because my darling friend, Henrietta (who lives and breathes tutus, trust me, she's got a whole wardrobe dedicated to them!), popped over for afternoon tea with a particularly grand concoction of a cucumber and smoked salmon sandwich, some very chic earl grey, and a huge box full ofโ€ฆ yes, you guessed it โ€“ tutus! Apparently, it was a "tutu emergency", and everyone must "celebrate" with a little tutus-tastic twirl!

So, off we went, armed with a veritable symphony of tulle, to the local park where a whole bunch of people, from grannies in fluffy pink numbers to kids in teeny tiny tutus, were parading about!

Let me tell you, darlings, the sights were quite a spectacle. Some people, clearly, were born to wear tutus. They flitted and twirled, making those little tutus really "take flight". I'm not sure what possessed other people to be quite so bold with the sartorial choice โ€“ a man in a lime green tutu holding a placard that read "Tutu Be Wild, People!" โ€“ but it made for deliciously ridiculous viewing.

We, naturally, took our tutus to another level (because you know, I love to add a touch of the theatrical to every outing). We whipped up a spontaneous ballet-inspired flash mob โ€“ you should have seen the little darlings whoโ€™d been doing a tutus-only "dance party" when we landed โ€“ they loved our little routine! We danced around the "I Love Tutu" banner like our lives depended on it and even managed to snag a few folks in the park for a group ballet, albeit a rather unconventional, tutu-laden, hilarious one.

Now, darlings, as we all know, I'm a little bit obsessed with the beauty and grace of a perfectly designed and worn tutu (particularly those by Caroline Houghton), so I've been wondering, what are the essentials to a fabulous tutu day?

  • A Tutu: You can't celebrate National Tutu Day without one. From traditional white to flamboyant rainbow-hued masterpieces โ€“ there's a tutu out there for everyone.
  • A Sparkling Cocktail: The best way to celebrate the frivolity of National Tutu Day? Sip on something sparkly and delicious! And of course, the cocktail glass needs to match your tutu, don't you think?
  • A Touch of Glamour : A big part of National Tutu Day is expressing your personal style. So put on your sparkliest jewellery and heels, and you're ready to rock this festive tutu-licious occasion.
  • A Heart Full of Joy: You have to approach this day with a playful and whimsical attitude, embrace the madness, and celebrate tutus in all their glorious, gauzy glory.

Now, this got me thinking โ€“ why stop at National Tutu Day? How about a National Leotard Day? A National Ballet Shoe Day? We can take this Tutu Madness all the way, my darlings! Perhaps even create a tutus and cocktails night at the local ballet? ( Henrietta is already putting together the invitation list, darling!)

Let's keep it fun and fashionably fabulously fun! Now, who's up for a spontaneous, tutu-filled ballet party this very moment? Don't worry about making your entrance, I can get us a fabulous backdrop!
