Tutu and Ballet News

Oh darling, can you believe it? Today's the day, 29th September, and you know what that means?! Yes, darlings, it's National Tutu Day! A day dedicated to all things fluffy, fabulous and fabulously frilly! Now, don't get me wrong, tutus aren't just for ballerinas anymore. They've had a fabulous makeover, darlings, and they're ready to take on the world! And believe me, they're doing it with a twinkle in their eye and a swirl in their skirt!

Imagine a world where everyone wears tutus, even the men! Well, maybe not the men...but the dogs! Think about it, a tiny chihuahua in a pink tutu? Absolutely adorable! Or maybe a regal bulldog with a navy blue, one-layer tutu, wouldn't that be divine?!

But seriously, darlings, we must celebrate the magnificent history of this piece of dancewear. From the earliest days of the tutu, a simple little white garment designed to allow for freedom of movement, to the extravagant multi-layered creations that adorn today's ballerinas, tutus have come a long way. They've been a symbol of elegance, a vehicle for dreams, and an inspiration for some of the most breathtakingly beautiful dances.

Now, some of you might be thinking, 'Tutues? They're only for ballerinas!' But I'm here to tell you, darling, you're wrong! Tutues have entered the mainstream and are making their way onto every fashionable gal's wardrobe.

Tutu Trends
  • From the catwalk to the high street: Let's be honest, it all started with Karl Lagerfeld, didn't it? That glorious Chanel collection with the sequined tutus and feather boas... simply divine! And of course, everyone followed suit, from Marc Jacobs to Moschino. Now you can snag your own little slice of haute couture at Primark, Zara, even H&M. They've got them in every color, darling, and every style, from mini-skirts to full-blown dramatic poufs! It's all about a little bit of ballerina magic, you see. Just throw on a pair of ankle boots, some statement earrings, and you're good to go.
  • From the studio to the gym: I've seen it, darlings! And it's fabulously inspired. You see, those tiny, adorable tutus are perfect for yoga. Just picture it: you're in a lovely, light, floaty little tutu, doing your downward dog with such grace, and you feel like a swan in a puddle of sunlight. Or, for you athletic fashionistas, there's those sporty, more athletic tutus. They're made with super-stretch materials, have all the usual functional bits and bobs - like little pockets and straps. They’re actually great for a sweaty spin class. You look fab, you feel amazing!
  • Tutus for the everyday: There are even tutus made for just your every day. Throw it over a t-shirt, layer it over a cute pair of dungarees. I've seen a few of my stylish pals even rocking them with a gorgeous fur coat! It’s all about channeling your inner ballerina, you see? We've got to embrace that playful spirit, don't you think?

I'll be honest, there's no single right way to wear a tutu. If it’s the ‘what to wear’ question you’re worried about, darling, don’t worry. They're versatile, sassy and undeniably glamorous. But just remember, if you're feeling uncertain, you're better off taking your time and finding what you really like! I just wouldn’t go with a tutu over a pencil skirt for your job interview! No one wants to get stuck in the door….

And to all my darlings, especially my fellow ballet dancers and those who simply adore the dance! We know that nothing beats the feeling of a beautiful, perfectly fitted, multi-layered tulle masterpiece when you're standing center stage, ready to dance. I just think it’s only right that on National Tutu Day, we celebrate these glorious little creations! So go forth and twirl! Go forth and spread your feathers and feathers in fabulous, fluffy fashion!
