Tutu and Ballet News

Darling, can you believe it's 05 October 2002 already? I feel like I blinked and we're practically in the holiday season! Where did the year go? My social calendar is absolutely overflowing, you know how it is – charity galas, dress rehearsals for *Swan Lake*, oh and don't forget about the absolutely essential tutu shopping trip!

Speaking of tutus, you wouldn't believe the latest trend in the ballet world. Imagine, if you will, a shimmering explosion of sequins and tulle. Oh, darling, they are absolutely divine! Now, you wouldn't catch me dead in some drab old beige or white tutu, that's so passé. No, we're talking neon pink, emerald green, a touch of cobalt blue for a touch of daring, you know. And let's not forget the feather boas. The bigger, the better, darling! We're all about expressing ourselves, and our tutus should be no exception!

Some of the older ballerinas, well, let's just say they haven't quite grasped this newfound fashion sense. They're still clinging to those traditional tutus, bless their hearts. The tutus that only come in beige and white, and have been in their possession since they were still young ballerinas! Don't get me wrong, they are certainly classics, but dear me, they're a bit like vintage Chanel - lovely in theory, but perhaps a little dated for today's contemporary ballerina.

Imagine if those grand dames of the dance world suddenly decided to get a little more "fashionable" and strut their stuff on stage with a daring cobalt blue tutu? My dears, the chaos would be positively magnificent! Can you imagine the dramatic gasps? The stunned silences? Oh darling, I simply *must* get to the next Royal Ballet performance! Perhaps I can encourage some of the older ballerinas to get out of their beige boxes and join us in the modern era. A splash of color, a daring feather boa, it's simply divine!

But enough about my obsession with tutus, let's talk about this season's most fabulous event. The Royal Opera House is holding its annual gala! Every year, darling, this event simply oozes glamour. This year, we have a divine programme, and you can simply bet your bottom dollar on the grand finale with a new contemporary ballet – an absolutely gorgeous fusion of dance and visual art! You won't believe how much this performance uses the tutus - imagine a stunning array of sparkling tutus floating across the stage. Imagine, darling!

Of course, a fabulous event requires a fabulous outfit, right? You're probably wondering what *I'm* wearing? Well, darling, let's just say it involves a dazzling gold sequined gown that leaves little to the imagination, a daring touch of crimson, and of course, an accessory worthy of a ballerina! Why, a delicate pearl necklace? Perhaps a feather boa that clashes fabulously with my ensemble! Oh, the possibilities! And speaking of possibilities, don't even get me started on the incredible footwear for this event! You can practically see those sleek, strappy shoes twinkling like stars, waiting to adorn my ankles and lead me gracefully across the polished dance floor! Oh, my dear, I can practically taste the champagne!

But you know what they say darling: the real excitement comes from the little details! There's nothing like watching the entire audience stare in disbelief as some of our *less* fashionable patrons arrive in their well-worn, decades-old versions of *that* beige tutu, right?! And don't even get me started on their mismatched, overly frilled accessories. Just, darling, simply hilarious!

Well, I best get off now, I have a mountain of tulle to prepare, you know! Darling, I shall let you know all about the events of the gala once it’s all over.
