Tutu and Ballet News

Oh, darling, it’s simply divine! You wouldn’t believe what happened at the Royal Ballet last night! It was a real knees-up, a right old giggle! I mean, tutus? Well, they’ve never looked this chic before! But hold onto your fascinators, dearies, because you’re in for a right treat!

So, it’s 19th October, 2002, and what better way to celebrate this momentous day than with some fabulous, fancy footwork at Covent Garden? The air was buzzing with anticipation, and even the usual stuffy patrons looked like they were ready for a little fun. I myself was sporting a fabulous fuchsia frock and a statement feather boa – just the ticket for a night at the ballet, don't you think?

Now, darling, the piece itself was a bit… well, let’s just say it wasn’t a Swan Lake. This was a new interpretation of Giselle. The choreographer had apparently spent the last month holed up in a Parisian bistro (I hear he had quite the fondness for Chardonnay), sketching away with his wine-stained napkins. And darling, it showed!

The tutus, they were the absolute talk of the town! Gone were the classic, prim, and proper tutus, replaced with something far more fabulous! They were – and brace yourselves darlings, this is going to make you shriek – they were *shimmering!* Oh yes, a thousand little crystals adorned every inch of them, all twinkling under the stage lights. It was as if a whole bunch of fairies had got their hands on the costumes! But then the genius really started shining…

Just when everyone was adjusting to the shimmery brilliance, the choreographer had one final ace up his sleeve, if you will. He unleashed a storm of tulle on us, like a ballerina’s tornado of the most fabulous kind. It was positively *avant garde* darling!

Now, the performance itself, it had some… interesting interpretations. A few moments were a little *questionable*, perhaps not for everyone's taste. The dancing, it had this new kind of modern spin to it. All sharp and pointy with lots of "contemporary movement." Some folks gasped, others laughed. I, on the other hand, simply gasped and laughed, darlings. It was an utter spectacle, absolutely captivating!

The applause was rapturous! Even those in the audience that were used to seeing their *classical* ballets were giving a standing ovation, darling! Even the royal box had its inhabitants swaying with excitement.

I have to say, I think this little "reimagined" Giselle was exactly what the Royal Ballet needed. A little bit of a laugh, a lot of bling and tulle and more than enough sparkly, sassy fun! We've had our classical tutu era - it's time to welcome in the fabulous, shimmering tutu era! Now where’s my champagne, dears? I need a drink to celebrate all this fabulousness!

Oh, and by the way, *Don’t forget your diamante-encrusted fascinator for next time!*
