Tutu and Ballet News

Oh, darlings! Can you believe it's the 5th of November? It’s not just Bonfire Night, you know – it’s also *Tutu Tuesday!* I’m swoon-worthy over this day, which celebrates those beautiful, billowing beauties: the tutus. It’s all very je ne sais quoi, darling, you know, a celebration of all things ballet-esque! I'm talking about the tulle, the taffeta, the utter twirling joy of it all!

You know what they say, "a girl can never have too many tutus." It’s true! We simply can't get enough of these ethereal, floating masterpieces, can we?

You might say, "But darling, I’m not a professional ballerina!" Oh, nonsense, love! You don't need a perfect arabesque or a split like an origami crane to embrace the tutu. It's all about celebrating your inner dancer!

Tutu Tuesday has exploded in popularity, so much so, that people are turning it into a proper event! Imagine this, darling: Afternoon tea and tulle! What’s not to love about sipping chamomile and swirling through the garden, twirling in your favourite tulle skirt, with your girlfriends? It’s practically begging for a snap on Insta, too!

The Evolution of the Tutu
  • Who even invented the tutu, you ask? The history of this elegant garment goes back, back, back to the mid 19th Century with the Italian dancer, Carlo Blasis, and his beautiful "ballet white," when it became all the rage for ballerinas to go full-on tulle and petticoats!
  • Those lovely little puffballs became smaller, then bigger and shorter then bigger again and bigger again and we even went through a stage of wearing a leotard without even the bottom layer. Who’d have thought we would miss it, right?
  • Of course, Tutu Tuesday is all about making a statement, whether you are at the Royal Ballet, the English National or just down your local pub for a cheeky afternoon of beer and ballet, I'd be remiss not to talk about the modern iterations! We see variations in colours, materials and silhouettes! It's amazing, just like the dance world itself, it’s continuously evolving. Who even needs a ballet barre anyway?!

Let’s be honest, the allure of tutus goes beyond dancing! Just a single layer of tulle is all you need for a burst of personality, style, and pure fun! Even better, tutues offer you a way to step outside the confines of societal norms, to defy the mundane and embrace pure, joyful freedom!

So, my lovely dancers, unleash your inner whirling dervishes today! Dress for Tutu Tuesday! Go all-out! Channel your favourite ballerina and dance into the sunset – if the sunset happens to be through the window of a local bar, who am I to judge! We’re celebrating, and the whole country is joining us, darling. And I have to say it, it’s looking fabulous.

In the spirit of Tutu Tuesday, dear friends, please indulge in a delicious, buttery slice of cake today, it’s truly the *petit four* of this joyful celebration! Don't forget your smile, and enjoy the twirl, my lovelies.
