Tutu and Ballet News

Darlings! It's your girl, Sasha, back with another hot-off-the-press scoop from the world of twirling, pirouette-ing and yes, those ever-so-fabulous tutus! It’s November 17th, 2002, and it's shaping up to be a truly unforgettable day for all things ballet – but first, let me grab my mimosa and settle in, shall we?

This morning, I stumbled upon the most divine news - and it's all about the most iconic outfit in ballet: the tutu. Did you know that today, November 17th, is National Tutu Day? I know, I know, who knew?! This is what happens when you dedicate your life to the elegance of ballet - it turns out we have a special day for everything!

Let’s get this out of the way, darling, I’m no fan of those ā€œhard-shellā€ tutus, they're like wearing a cardboard box around your bottom! Thank heavens, fashion-forward ballet designers are putting a new spin on the classic tulle! I'm talking **tutus made from recycled plastic bottles**, darling! That’s right, sustainable fashion meets a timeless silhouette in a big way.

Now, this wouldn’t be a proper Sasha update without some insider tea. Did you know that the legendary prima ballerina, Maria Bellafonte, has announced her new ballet company called ā€œTutus For the Planet?ā€ Now that’s something I’d love to see! It’s about bringing a touch of elegance and sustainability to the stage - how can you say no to that?

On a more scandalous note, there have been rumours about the upcoming London Ballet's new production, "The Nutcracker". Rumour has it the Nutcracker is set to wear… wait for it… a tutu! But not just any tutu, darlings - a neon pink one!

As you know, the ā€œNutcrackerā€ has become a staple in our ballet traditions – something as precious and beautiful as the traditional sugar plum fairy's costumes. But changing tradition can be daring, exhilarating… and frankly, it’s got me all tingly!

Oh, and speaking of tradition, I’ve just learned that the world-renowned ballerina, Celeste Von Roth, has donated her famous ā€œSwan Lakeā€ tutu to the Victoria and Albert Museum. The iconic piece is said to be worth a fortune - and rightfully so. Those hand-sewn, pearlescent sequins, darling, the details! A testament to the dedication of our favourite art form. It is something so delicate, ethereal… it’s truly magical.

Now, what to wear for a ballet day celebration? Personally, I’ll be wearing my signature pink feathered boa and an exquisitely embroidered black top. It just screams sophistication and ā€œdancing divaā€. It's like a whisper of the theatre, don't you think?

So darling, don’t let this National Tutu Day go to waste. Celebrate the artistry of ballet, wear something lovely, sip on some champagne… and remember, the joy of dance, the allure of a perfectly spun tutu – that’s something we can always hold close to our hearts.

Remember to stay fabulous, my dears! Until next time… xoxo Sasha.
