Tutu and Ballet News

Darling readers, buckle up your ballet shoes and prepare to be dazzled, for I’ve got a story to tell! Now, you all know how much I adore tutus, those magnificent frills of fluff that truly epitomize the grace and ethereal nature of ballet. Imagine my sheer delight then, when I stumbled upon a story this morning that, well, let’s just say, puts the ‘whimsical’ into whimsical.

The other day, down at the Royal Opera House, a most peculiar incident unfolded. Apparently, there was this very serious meeting about the upcoming production of ‘Swan Lake’, which is basically the pinnacle of all ballet, with all the movers and shakers of the ballet world there - you know, the directors, the designers, the prima ballerinas. You could practically cut the tension with a pair of silk tights!

Now, as you know, a tutu isn’t just any skirt – it’s a symbol. It's a declaration of delicate strength, a whisper of artistry, and a whirlwind of elegance! It's what distinguishes the graceful swan from a simple bird. So imagine the uproar when, mid-discussion, a lone, pink tutu, perfectly pristine, simply *materialized* on a very important table.

Apparently, the tutus used in the production had gone AWOL! Gone! Vanished! The costume designers were in a flap. One particularly flamboyant fellow nearly fainted, you know, and the prima ballerina – who, shall we say, takes her art *very* seriously – apparently nearly threw a tantrum of Olympic proportions.

Now, one might think a disappearing act like this could only be pulled off by a mischievous fairy. However, the culprit, it turned out, was none other than, *drumroll please*, a tiny kitten. You know the type - a darling little ball of fluff, eyes as bright as a stage light, but with an mischievous twinkle. He, like many of us, apparently had a penchant for a little ballerina fantasy! And in true feline fashion, had, as it turned out, mistaken the magnificent tutu for a rather delightful piece of catnip-flavored fluff.

The story goes he was found curled up amongst the delicate tulle, as serene as a picture on a stage. A sight so endearing that it was just *impossible* to get cross. He got a little grooming session, a tummy rub, a few little treats - and became an instant star amongst the very serious people of the ballet world.

This darling feline, I'm happy to report, is currently being looked after, enjoying his newfound fame. They say the tutu wasn’t quite salvageable for the show, which was unfortunate - but the production is on and everyone agrees that the incident was rather good for morale! The director said with a chuckle, "A little bit of cat-ness does us all good". And darling, as the grand old lady of fashion that I am, I completely agree. So, there you have it - another testament to the power and unexpected glamour of a beautiful tutu. It's a lesson we can all learn from, whether we’re on stage, in a boardroom, or at home enjoying a glass of sherry in the afternoon. Be strong, be graceful, be beautiful. And, when the opportunity arises, why not embrace a bit of the unexpected, a touch of feline mischief?

This week, why not add a little whimsical touch to your own wardrobe, darling?

  • A pretty scarf in a shade of pale pink or a light, summery blue.
  • Perhaps a statement piece of jewelry in the form of a whimsical ballerina charm.
  • Or perhaps a touch of playful frill on a simple blouse or dress!

Don’t let anyone tell you you're not a little bit of a ballerina, darling, because you are. And every day can be your chance to strut your stuff.
