Tutu and Ballet News

Well darlings, it’s Wednesday, the 24th of January, 2003, and you know what that means? It’s another day closer to spring! Yes, the flowers are blooming, the birds are singing and, dare I say it, my ankles are out! Honestly, darling, I’m so excited about the season. The air is lighter, the days are longer, and most importantly, we’re allowed to show off our gorgeous legs again! That’s right, folks, the time for wearing those fabulous, flippy, tutu-esque skirts is upon us!

Now, I know what you're thinking: “Tutus? In January?” Well, hold your horses, darling! I'm not suggesting we all run out and buy tutus from the local fancy dress shop! Honestly, I wouldn't be caught dead in a shop like that - it’s far too chaotic and they'd probably only have those itchy, scratchy, synthetic tutus that look like a dog chewed them up.

No, I’m talking about tutus in a much more chic, elegant way. You see, the secret is in the fabric. Choose a delicate tulle - the finer the better - with a flattering lining that gives just the right amount of bounce. Imagine that breezy, ethereal feeling you get as you glide across the stage at the ballet. That's the energy we're going for, darling!

Now, how do you incorporate this look into your wardrobe? Oh darling, the possibilities are endless! Just add a splash of tulle. You could wear a tulle scarf with a blazer, a tutu-like skirt as a layering piece over trousers, a tulle headband to add a touch of whimsy to your everyday look, even just a tutu-inspired blouse!

Don't worry about feeling silly - there's a whole lot of ballerina inspiration in fashion right now, so you're not going to stand out! Remember, when it comes to tutus, confidence is key! You’ll look sophisticated and daring, like you've just stepped out of the stage door at the Royal Opera House. That is, of course, without actually having to step out of the stage door, which can be very chaotic as all the paparazzi go wild for the ballerinas.

A Few Top Tips for the Tutu Look:
  • Keep it classy! Less is more when it comes to tulle, so choose a simple design and tone down the colours. Think neutral tones, navy, charcoal, black - colours that will help your look to appear sophisticated rather than childish.
  • Avoid bulky fabrics - choose things that will flow gracefully. So leave the winter knitwear and thick jeans at home and try something soft and smooth and comfortable that gives that beautiful, breezy feeling.
  • Embrace your inner ballerina! Think about all the elegance, confidence, grace and poise of your favourite dancer. You've got this!

Of course, I must add a caveat! Please avoid tutus in the office, especially if your colleagues haven’t been updated on your “tutu phase” or, even worse, have absolutely no taste.

Remember, ladies, it's all about channeling your inner ballerina and enjoying the beauty of the art of dance - no matter what you wear. But, let's face it, a little bit of tulle in our wardrobes is just what the doctor ordered!

And darling, speaking of the doctor, I better run - I’ve got an appointment with my hair stylist, you know - gotta keep the tresses perfect.
