Tutu and Ballet News

Dearest readers, darlings, my lovelies! It’s the 16th of February 2003, and my heart is overflowing with an irresistible urge to talk about something terribly fabulous: tutus!

Yes, those little bundles of tulle, those puffball confections of sheer elegance, those tiny dancers' dreams! Oh, how I adore their fluffy perfection. They're like edible clouds, only instead of devouring them, we swirl and twirl in them!

Tutus. The word itself just oozes romance and drama! A little tutu with a matching pair of ballet slippers can make you feel like a prima ballerina in no time at all. Trust me. Don't let the size fool you - these fluffy little delights pack a punch! They're powerful symbols of graceful beauty.

You'll be tickled to know that just this week there's a grand event at the Royal Ballet in London, something I simply must share! Imagine - they’re holding a tutu competition.

Yes, you heard right - a Tutus! The event is dubbed 'The Most Wonderful Tutu in the World' - an absolute bonkers concept - but honestly, can we imagine anything more divine? And this, my dears, is where the story takes a thrilling turn, where a dash of drama, and a little pinch of silliness come into play. You won’t believe it!

The Rules!

And the rules for this most exquisite event are, let's just say, intriguing! * A tutu must have been worn in a ballet performance within the past year - no time for dusty museum pieces! * All the ballerinas (who we'll call Tutu Contestants for now) can only wear their tutu for the competition - no second, third or fourth tries here! * No judges are allowed! Only the audience gets a vote - imagine, my loves! That's just *divine* democracy! * The voting is carried out by, hold on, wait for it…the number of bubbles the tutu can catch while hanging from the Royal Opera House balcony - I can't make this up, darlings!

Naturally, I had to attend this spectacular event. Donning my best frock, and armed with a bag full of champagne flutes, I ventured into this world of tulle and tutus. The event itself was quite a scene!

Honestly, the most entertaining thing was the sheer range of tutus on show, they were quite spectacular, but equally ludicrous: * The Queen of Hearts tutu with a dramatic crimson satin skirt that wouldn't look out of place at a royal garden party; * a tutu with an absolutely ridiculous number of feathers! And so much of it! Honestly darling, feathers were spilling onto the stage and nearly suffocating the poor ballerina, but it looked fabulous, so no harm done. * there was a Tutu with flashing lights - I thought I was in Vegas for a minute! * A Tutu fashioned from only recycled paper – well, I don’t know who looked more shocked - the audience, or the ballerina when she caught her leg in the folds. It’s an achievement in itself to spin in this one! I was impressed, my dear!

The whole spectacle was an exercise in pure silliness, but my darlings, sometimes a good dose of frivolity is exactly what the doctor ordered! The winners - yes, plural, my dear! It wasn’t just one Tutu, but a whole selection! What could make a tutu win?!

The criteria is just delightful! * How many bubbles they caught! – Obviously more bubbles is better! * If a ballerina almost fell down while trying to get into it – they obviously did well – and you just know there must have been some fun behind the scenes there! * And of course, how the Tutu matched with the ballerina's mood and personality. A shy ballerina could wear a very dainty, whimsical Tutu, while the drama queens got their sparkle on. I just *love* it!

All I know, is I left feeling giddy with laughter and covered in a few, maybe more, bubbles – they were *everywhere* and frankly darling, I don’t think anyone there cared. That, darling, is the joy of ballet and tutus - embracing life’s little imperfections and finding the magic within the madness. So go on, darling, put on a Tutu! Have some fun!
