Tutu and Ballet News

Darlings, can you believe it? 25th July 1996! A momentous occasion, as all those glorious years since that ballet dancer, I mean "star", I mean ... well, someone ... wore that tutu to that event in the eighties - no, it was 1988, I believe! Or was it '87? - can now be relegated to "vintage." Vintage! Who would have thought, all those twirling years ago, that we'd ever have such a word as 'vintage' to describe that moment in ballet history?

Anyway, I think you’re all thinking it, right? We all love a tutu! That swirling, ethereal masterpiece. A sartorial symbol, and a veritable canvas for design that evokes ... *drum roll* …the magic of ballet!

Today, darling, we’re celebrating the timeless appeal of the ballet tutu, that magnificent symbol of feminine elegance and grace, from that wonderful era that saw so much change: the 1980s! I’m not sure what the future holds for the tutu. Some people are even daring to go so far as to suggest they're a relic! They're like … a historical artefact!

Personally, I find this utterly offensive. Don't even mention these fashion faux-pas, or they may well make a comeback - if you know what I mean, darling! Think how tragic, after all we've learned about what really works ... we have to contend with "fashion forward" types thinking "nostalgia" is good, even *de rigeur*, I mean ... I'm losing it here! I *never* thought I'd say this about a tutu but they need to get back to basics, in fact … you might need some more than basics - if you’re ever asked to “get basic." Get it, darling?

Speaking of basic, don’t be fooled, my dears. While those white and pink tutus seem simple enough, their construction, a masterpiece of sewing, artistry, and craftsmanship, isn't always appreciated by ... let's call them, "those who are unfamiliar". They don't know what's going on with the way those ballerinas, I mean ... well, the *dancers*, have to make that … "tutu look," they work *so* hard!

Yes, darling! The tutu, although deceptively simple, embodies that essence of feminine artistry, elegance, and just a touch of ethereal whimsy ... that is ballet. A statement that’s been making waves since, *wait for it* … ...1987, or maybe even the early ‘80s ... and, yes! ... a vintage moment for the ages.

And I just adore the way those pink tutus – such a lovely colour! – they just … *so* chic against that lush green background, like they were from the pages of a fashion magazine – *right there in front of your eyes*, dancing, with that *whimsical* grace, you just know those dancers have put in those hours ...!

You may wonder what’s happened to all the other tutus … the red and orange ones. Gone, I'm afraid! Just gone, with a “puff” of *nothingness*. Maybe that's where all the 'tutus are these days ... lost in that place they *all* go ... where *we* also like to linger ... when we're looking at the things that used to be and have … *gone*.

Darling! You just have to know that what really matters … you know it *so* well ... what *really* counts, it’s the ballerina’s – ok ... dancers ... - movement, it’s that ‘twirling’ artistry. The *energy*. How they command that audience to, like, sit up and take notice – when that magical dance starts to ... *really* … get going!

I’m thinking that that 'vintage’ vibe might have *just* kicked in, because we’ve got those pink and white tutus everywhere right now. And everyone is just ... well ... you know, just loving it, darling ...!

They seem to just pop up ... everywhere … in every city, you have these gorgeous young girls ... looking *perfectly* amazing ... just like they stepped out of a dance studio … at the theatre or … you can spot them just strolling along, like ... on Oxford Street ... (the Oxford Street here, of course! Or possibly that Oxford Street in London - not the one I used to visit. You know it ... in that faraway place ... they've got everything there!)

Here is the thing, darling! Those pink and white tutus, they seem to be back ... well, they have been *back* ... because... what they represent … I guess, what the whole of *ballet* is all about, that, that "look." It’s all about feminine style – you know – it's so... so ...*chic*. And who doesn't love 'chic' *or* 'feminine style'?'

So, dear friends ... it’s definitely an excellent opportunity to dust off your old pink or white tutu! ... Maybe take a selfie, or go to a ballet performance. After all, the magic of ballet can truly *make your day!* I am so thrilled about those tutus – a reminder that some trends ... are simply timeless! And if they become, *say it with me now* … 'vintage'! – *well* ... you will *not* want to be without *one*.

As for me? Well ... let’s just say, you may just be *seeing me* ... sporting that ... very vintage tutu … somewhere ... *very soon*.

Enjoy those tutus ... in their new 'vintage' garb ... just as *they were designed* ... *darling* ... you’ll find me *wearing mine*!

That is it for *today*, darlings, let me know what you think, send your ballet fashion thoughts to, that’s right … *moi*! *I would love to hear from you! *

*I will, of course, be* * back with *another* 'Fashionista’ update ... *don't miss it ... !*
