Tutu and Ballet News

Oh darlings, buckle up your pointe shoes because today is a day for celebration, a day for pirouettes, a day for tutus! August 2nd, 1996 - the date that will go down in history as the day we realised that ballet isn't just about grace and elegance, it's about a whole lot of fabulous, darling! And what's more fabulous than a tutu? I mean, let's face it, every girl wants to be a ballerina, don't they? Imagine the power of swishing around in a billowing tutu, the pure unadulterated femininity! A tutu, darlings, is not just a piece of clothing, it's a statement. A statement of strength, of grace, of ultimate, pure, fabulousness! It says, "I'm a ballerina and I'm here to take on the world," or "I'm a dancer who doesn't care if the wind makes me look like a whirling dervish!" There are so many different colours! There's the timeless beauty of a classic white tutu - it just screams 'swan lake!' and who doesn't love the saccharine charm of a pretty pink one? Let's just be honest, they’re not quite as graceful when the tutu's too short!

And who hasn’t fantasized about wearing one? Imagine the feeling! We may not be professional dancers twirling around on a stage with our perfectly coiffed buns, but with our imagination we can slip on the glorious tulle, pull the leotard tight over our impossibly toned thighs and pretend we're floating above the dance floor, just like our favorite prima ballerinas. Let's be real, ladies, what we really want to be are Prima Ballerinas, the queens of the stage! They have all the glamorous features! Stunningly beautiful and elegant figures. And then there’s their power: They have the ability to transport audiences to other worlds through their flawless dance steps. But don't be fooled into thinking their lives are a waltz through a rose garden, it’s about the hours and hours of training! Don't get me wrong - it is certainly worth it, for their sacrifice comes with a lifetime of stunning success, applause, adoration and admiration!

Oh, the tutu - a beacon of female empowerment in the face of the male-dominated world of classical ballet. But before you get carried away by my passionate speech on tutus, we should also give a nod to leotards, don't you think? Those impossibly stretchy, impossibly comfortable, second-skin wonders that are the foundation of every ballerina’s wardrobe! There’s just nothing more empowering than slipping into a leotard – you are ready to unleash your inner diva, your inner ballerina. Let's face it - they're not as whimsical and fairy-tale like as a tutu, but, come on! They can be just as glamorous, just as important. A leotard is like a blank canvas for the ballerina’s performance; it shows off the perfect line of the legs and the delicate curve of the body! They’re a reminder that ballet is not just about fluff and ruffles, it’s about pure, raw athleticism. Think about the endless possibilities that come with them! From bold colours to classic blacks and pinks! And if you’re going to wear a leotard - why not choose one in pink? Pink – it's such a feminine color and always looks so fabulous, don't you think? Now, don’t you dare forget, my loves! If we are going to live out our ballerinas dreams - we must always, ALWAYS, stay strong. And we do that through constant exercise! We all dream of doing those stunning split moves. We need to get into the best shape of our lives to achieve our goals, you can’t be a dancer without taking the time to properly tone your thigh muscles and your tummy. Even if we are not the super graceful types - that are always flawlessly posing for cameras and performing breathtaking routines, we must all channel our inner prima ballerinas! Let's not forget – those ballet steps are notoriously difficult! The dedication, discipline and endless strength and flexibility – are all just part of what it means to be a ballerina. We have to have the stamina and the commitment to stay with it, if we truly want to have the grace and beauty of our favourite prima ballerinas, if we want to reach our potential!

So, whether you're a seasoned ballerina or a ballet enthusiast like me - don't forget to slip into a leotard and a tutu and give yourself a good, old-fashioned twirl for your inner prima ballerina. You’re never too old or too clumsy for that dream! Embrace it! And now - darling – if you'll excuse me, I’m off to find a fluffy, white tutu to dance around the apartment to an utterly fabulous ballet masterpiece - my inner prima ballerina calls, don’t you know!

P.S. don't forget to post your pics with your tutu to all the social media channels! I can't wait to see those dance moves!
