Tutu and Ballet News

Oh darling, itā€™s just gone 7:30 pm here in the Big Smoke, and Iā€™m just about to slip into something a little more comfortableā€¦ well, comfortable for a ballerina anyway, that's my tutu. I mean, don't get me wrong, I LOVE a good tracksuit, but you know, thereā€™s just something magical about the twirl of a well-constructed, swishy, tulle tutu. And let's be honest, there's nothing more eye-catching, nothing that will make you feel quite so regal than a gorgeous tutu.

Anyway, I was just flicking through my favourite glossy magazine when I stumbled upon the most divine fashion feature. It seems the **tutu** is back, darlings, and I mean **BIG** time! Apparently, those fabulous feathered, fabulous frothy concoctions we used to pirouette in at ballet school, theyā€™re not just for swans and sugar plum fairies anymore. No, this time around, these tulle beauties are being worn with everything, from ripped jeans and leather jackets to floor-length ball gowns and stilettos.

The fashion industry, as ever, is embracing its playful side, and designers are letting their creativity run wild. There were the **bright pink, fluffy, frilly tutu creations** by Vivienne Westwood, all a bit ā€œLittle Bo Peep meets Sex and the Cityā€ , that I imagine Carrie Bradshaw would have killed for in her heyday. Then there was the **classic, understated tutu** from Dior, perfect for a refined soirĆ©e, which would make even Duchess Kate green with envy. The Valentino look, however, with itā€™s **black lace tutu layered over a shimmering satin dress**, gave me a real feeling of 80ā€™s vintage disco, perfect for shimmying around a trendy nightclub.

Itā€™s not just about the fashion, though. This **resurgence of the tutu** is more than a simple sartorial trend, darlings. Itā€™s about a re-awakening of femininity, of elegance, and of embracing the fun and whimsy that lies within us all. It's about the playful defiance of our modern, more serious times, an attitude of ā€˜let's have fun, let's be a little outrageous!ā€™ Itā€™s a message of ā€œwear it your way, baby!ā€, an encouragement for us all to experiment and take risks with our style.

Who needs to wait for Halloween to play dress-up, right? The fashion editors say ā€œ embrace your inner fairy and be ready to spin, prance and sparkle!ā€

It's no wonder the fashion world has been swept up in a wave of tulle mania. And, frankly, it's about time. It's not like this is some obscure trend like **poking one's nose with a pin** . Youā€™ll need to act fast though because fashion trends are notoriously fickle. Just like a tutu does, the style is destined to have a life of its own, before disappearing just as suddenly as it arrived. You'll probably see the look everywhere in no time, from catwalks to the high streets to our Instagram feeds - we will see tutus on celebrities, bloggers, and even the dog walkers.

It might be frivolous, darlings, but who needs another ā€œmust-have, can't live without fashion stapleā€ to take over our wardrobe? Life's too short, as they say. Letā€™s take the time to relish the unexpected and play a bit, and be just a bit fabulous. You just need to pick your tutu moment!

So, go on, get out there and twirl, girls. We all have a **ballerina within**, waiting to be released!

But before you start getting out your old dance shoes, and trying to make a hasty trip to the theatre costume shop (donā€™t, darling, please - not the theatre costume shop! It would be like taking the bus to the Bahamas ), just consider some things about how to **incorporate a tutu into your current wardrobe**.

ā€¢ Think about **colour**. A tulle tutu looks fab paired with everything from basic blacks and whites to strong bold colour palettes, and even a good denim. Just keep it simple - the tutu itself is already making a statement, so don't be afraid to let it do the talking. ā€¢ Then thereā€™s **the material**. Weā€™re talking tulle here - which means its super-fine mesh and semi-sheer - it might mean, ladies, that we are getting more in touch with our inner Marilyn than our inner Margot Fontaine! This can lead to problems if we have some tummy concerns. However, with the right top or loose fitted jumper, or even just a nice t-shirt tucked into your trousers or jeans, a tulle tutu is the perfect accessory for any casual outings or nights out with your mates. ā€¢ For a night out where a **serious sense of fun** is required, you might like a layered tutu. As we said earlier, Vivienne Westwood was the mistress of layered fun and if we are being serious, it is hard to imagine this look will take off (the thought of going from work, meeting up with friends for a pint in the pub, then on to a wedding or a club with one piece of clothing in between seems a bit out of reach), but itā€™s still the most obvious place for you to see a tutu on a normal woman, not at a performance, for once. If this is your choice - please do go the full, flamboyant route: with full, frothy layers, bright colors and some seriously striking footwear. Go full fabulous, ladies! ā€¢ Lastly, just remember the **little things**, the details that really elevate the look: a statement necklace, a chic pair of heels, a bit of glitter for that extra touch of sparkle. And donā€™t forget about your **make-up**: eyeshadow, lip colour, or a slick of eyeliner! Itā€™s the whole package, darlings.

Now, if youā€™ll excuse me, I have a new fashion adventure to prepare for.
