Tutu and Ballet News

Well, darlings, it seems the world is a whirlwind of tutus and tiaras today. Yes, dear readers, it's April 2nd, 1997, and the dance world is utterly aflutter! Let me tell you, it's been a particularly whimsical day, wouldn't you say? The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and my, oh my, are the tutus twirling.

Firstly, there's this delightful news from the Royal Ballet School, where they've just unveiled their latest, must-have tutu collection. "It's all about playful silhouettes and whimsical textures," gushes a representative, looking quite chic in a ruffled blouse, of course. Imagine a tutu with shimmering silk, hand-beaded sequins, and, wait for it, fluffy, pink pom-poms! And these beauties are perfect for the "prima donna" of any young ballerina. They've been described as "a delightful marriage of classic elegance and modern flair" by none other than the Duchess of Devonshire, who popped by earlier, looking as splendid as ever.

Speaking of pom-poms, my darling, have you seen the latest craze sweeping the catwalks? Fluffy tutus! These aren't your dainty, delicate numbers. Oh, no, darling, these are the "more the merrier" type. It seems even our feline friends have jumped on the tutu bandwagon, and they look utterly delightful in their billowing frocks! I hear there's even a cat cafe opening in Harrods, with a whole selection of tutus available for their feline customers to frolic in. Can you imagine? Simply darling, simply delightful!

Of course, it wouldn't be a true day of tutu madness without a touch of controversy, would it? There has been a little bit of a dust-up over in the US where some, ahem, shall we say less than stylish souls, have started wearing tutus to the local supermarket. I simply don't understand, darling. A tutu is for the stage, the dance floor, and, well, perhaps the aforementioned cat cafes! One particularly adventurous soul even attempted a "grand jeté" across the deli counter, much to the amusement of the other shoppers, and utter despair of the manager! I'm simply horrified at the prospect of the tutu becoming anything less than, shall we say, exquisite!

Now, this little bit of sartorial madness has got everyone talking. Even the Queen has been seen with a fluffy, pink tutu-shaped handbag, much to the amusement of Prince Philip who was heard saying, "Darling, you wouldn't have worn it to Buckingham Palace, would you?" But I say, let the tutus twirl, darling! This delightful outburst of fluffy frivolity is just what the world needs to brighten up this otherwise ordinary Wednesday.

Here's a little quiz for you, darlings: What are the 5 best places to spot a tutu in London? (I'll give you a hint, they are all perfectly appropriate locations, unlike that supermarket, naturally!).

  • The Royal Ballet Performance at the Royal Opera House
  • The Covent Garden Flower Market (the most adorable tutus will be seen in the hands of a delightful young dancer!)
  • A "Strictly Come Dancing" TV show
  • A shop window, at one of London's finest boutiques!
  • At the ballet school near Hyde Park, of course!

Now, darling, go forth and embrace the whimsical world of tutus! Just don't try a "jeté" across your local Tesco, or you might get arrested! Just remember, "The tutu is the ballerina's true form of self-expression," as the Duchess of Devonshire told me just this morning. Cheers to the joy of dancing! Until next time, my dears, keep those tutus twirling!
