Tutu and Ballet News

Well, darlings, it’s that time of year again - yes, it's the time we all flock to the theatre in our finest frocks, and let's be honest, the occasion we *all* secretly wish we could rock a ballerina bun! But alas, some of us (cough, cough… yours truly) lack the co-ordination and, well, let’s face it, the *je ne sais quoi* needed to grace the stage. So, for those of us who have more enthusiasm for ballet than actual talent (hello fellow wannabes!), we settle for a *spectacular* tutu-tastic outing to the ballet - no pirouettes required!

Now, I'm not talking about those little, lacy numbers that your niece would wear for a school recital. We're talking about the **real** deal, darlings - the ones that say, "I am a *ballerina,* and I am *fierce*!” You know the ones – the ones that are, quite frankly, big enough to *wear* as a tutu yourself ! You could *actually* hide in one! (The good news is, if things ever got dicey, your trusty tutu would provide both a magnificent cloak *and* a weapon - think feather-duster meets martial arts moves.)

Last night was an absolute *swoonfest*! The Royal Ballet performed "Swan Lake" and, well, the swans really *had* to be seen to be believed! Their **tut-tacular** numbers, a vibrant spectacle of tulle, took our breath away. Now, we all know that the iconic tutu is one of the most *defining* items in ballet history – it *screams* "ballet!" There’s just *something* about the tutu, right? It is such a beautiful thing, so elegant, so full of flow... They say they are the perfect way to "bring out a woman's femininity". (But who knows if that *was* their original intent... maybe someone just thought "Hey! This stuff's cheap – lets fashion ourselves something fluffy! And make them dance *on* their *toes*!"

This whole thing - all this talk of tutu-ific wonders - has me wanting to get myself down to my local fabric store and purchase some tulle to see if I can put together some DIY delights myself! Now I might *never* make it to the stage (without serious injuries and much humiliation, at least) but *damn* it if I can't get my *own* tutu action going! So stay tuned for *a la mode* blog post, full of tutu tips, tricks and trends! I mean, how else can I become a ballerina (without a single *actual* step?) In the meantime, do yourself a favor and take yourself to a show - the best thing about ballet, is you can still get the look *without* having to even try *anything* in the *dance* department.
