Tutu and Ballet News

**Oh, the Drama! The Tutus! The Leaptastic Fun of Ballet!**

Good heavens, darling! It's 30th October 1996, and the ballet world is absolutely abuzz. Can you believe it? The "Nutcracker" is only six weeks away and we are already deep in the throes of rehearsals! I just popped in on my local ballet school for a little gossip (and, of course, a spot of admiring the beautiful tutus) and I must say, there's some drama in the air - a sprinkle of 'it's my way or the highway' and a generous dash of tutus. Honestly, my dears, you could almost smell the perfume of a full-blown diva tantrum.

First, we have the reigning queen of the pirouette, Priscilla Prancealot. My darlings, she is a woman who takes her dancing *very* seriously! Priscilla, a veritable ballet legend in her own right, is giving her final performance this year. Oh, the tears are flowing, the farewell parties are booked, and her fellow ballerinas have bought her a beautifully-crafted wooden shoe. You can't deny that Priscilla is an absolute darling. Now, she has decided, as a final farewell, that she *must* have a "white" tutu. Now, white tutus are so elegant and refined, but let's be real here. It is utterly traditional for the Sugar Plum Fairy to wear a luscious shade of *pink*. However, this little missy has decided to make a bold statement and break with the centuries of ballet history. Will the ballet world accept her, you ask? My darlings, it's going to be *fascinating*!

But wait! It seems there are rival tutus in the mix. A newbie dancer, called Polly Peachbottom, has been absolutely working her magic in rehearsals. A real darling, you see. She is up for the part of the Sugar Plum Fairy (I do believe she could have even been hand-picked by the Fairy Godmother herself). Now, I have seen her perform in rehearsals, my dears. She's got it! But then she does something completely unpredictable. She has made her own "Pink" tutu and declared that she won't wear anything else for the production! Pink! As bold as a scarlet lipstick. It's the ultimate ballet power move.

The ballet world, I tell you! So scandalous. Who will wear their tutu best? Who will conquer the stage? And who will be declared the victor? We'll just have to wait for opening night! The ballet season is always full of surprises and, I tell you, these are two of the best.

Now, here's a little fashion fix for you my darling readers! It wouldn't be a good news piece without a smidge of fashion! Ballet, my darlings, is all about elegance, sophistication, and an impeccable look. And you know what really does the trick? The **"en pointe" look!** And let's be honest, nothing says 'elegant' like a fabulous pair of pointe shoes!

The *true* pointe shoe has changed little since the beginning. They were worn on top of shoes to lift a dancer’s feet higher into the air to create an effect that would elongate the silhouette and make them appear as if they were on their tip-toes. Nowadays they are used for that magical ‘en pointe’ look – even with our daily dress. Now, we aren't going to *actually* be waltzing through the supermarket in pointe shoes, darlings. They are only meant to *mimic* that delightful ballerina look. I, personally, favour a satin fabric, which can give a luxurious touch to any attire - even a jeans and tee combo. And with their flat soles, the pointe shoes you buy for everyday wear have a lovely delicate feminine feel to them that makes them perfect for adding an air of elegance and poise. My tip is that the more colour you add, the better, darling! Bright yellows, purples and shades of red! The best part about wearing pointy ballet slippers, or pointe shoes as we call them in this season of 'Nutcracker' fun, is that they can also be paired with a stunning range of fabulous dresses - or anything else your darling heart desires! You simply have to *feel* good, you see. But now, if you'll excuse me, I must run. The world of ballet waits!

**My Style Tips:**

* Wear *those* tights! They will be a hit!

* The *more* colour, the better!

* If you can't tell from the headline, drama is my style. If there's a possibility of 'extra', embrace it!

**Have fun, darlings! I do. That's why I live for the tutus! And I just love that ballet makes me *feel* so fantastic.**
