Tutu and Ballet News

Tut-Tastic Tuesday: Ballet Takes Over the World!

It's a glorious day, darlings, a day that calls for twirling, for leaps, for a whole lot of *en pointe* joy! For today, 31st July 1996, marks the most momentous event in the history of ballet – not, as you might imagine, the first performance of *Swan Lake* or the invention of the *pointe* shoe – but the glorious day that tutus officially took over the world!

You might be wondering how this incredible feat came about. Well, let's just say that **tutu** fever has swept across the globe. From the bustling streets of London to the glittering beaches of St Tropez, from the sprawling suburbs of Dallas to the charming cobblestone alleys of Florence, people have been putting on their very best tutus.

You see, a few days ago, the *Daily Telegraph* ran a curious little article, titled "Tutus are back! Fashion experts weigh in on the latest trend". A photo of a delightful model twirling in a voluminous, bubblegum pink tulle tutu on the front page cemented the trend, and from then on, it was a full-blown Tutu Revolution!

As for the *Daily Telegraph* fashion experts? Let’s just say they are as surprised as we are! This wasn’t exactly on their *Haute Couture* Bingo cards, but then, who can resist a good *en pointe* twist?

The **tutu** has been in and out of fashion since its first grand appearance back in the 1800s, but today marks a major turning point in tutu history. It is no longer a solely confined garment of the stage; no longer something reserved for dainty dancers with graceful movements and questionable balance (we've all seen those, haven’t we? ). Oh, no, my dears!

Now, **tut-tastic** means *tout le monde*, which translates into **every single person**. The tutus are popping up everywhere: on the streets, at work, in restaurants, at school. You want to go to the bank? Tutú. Go shopping for your next tutu, naturally.

Yesterday, Queen Elizabeth even stepped onto the balcony of Buckingham Palace wearing a striking scarlet **tutu**, matching her favourite brooch – the *Diamond Tiara* that looks rather fabulous when combined with a good *double-pirouette*. Talk about an iconic *en pointe* statement.

Yes, darling, it’s truly a time of joy, a time to let the tutu loose and express yourself in a whirlwind of feathers and silk. This trend is as exciting as it is hilarious! A little bit of *tututification* is good for the soul! It lifts the spirits, encourages us to move with a certain amount of flair and brings joy to those watching, which, my dear, is never a bad thing!

However, dear readers, there is a note of caution I must express. Please, please, dear reader, *be careful when wearing your tutus*. A **tutu**, by nature, is quite a bit more flammable than a dress or even a *leotard*, so steer clear of any naked flames! And remember, a **tutu** needs care. They should only be hand washed (so not ideal for the quick commute) and should be stored on padded hangers in a clean, dust-free place. This means that those cute little plastic hangers, which look fabulous, are a bit *non* if you have plans for your tutu's longevity. It will simply *not* work!

So go on, embrace the world with a twirl! Get yourself a tutu! The bigger, the better! Go *en pointe* into the world and make it a truly spectacular day! I cannot wait to see the sartorial extravaganza that unfolds in front of my own peepers! This is what dreams are made of, dear! It's just magical!

Here is your quick tutu fashion guide!

  • If your style is *Classic* and a bit *Regal* and *Chic*, go for a **tutu** with a short skirt, no feathers and a colour like emerald green, crimson, or maybe even gold!
  • If your style is more *Girly* and *Fun* go for a bright pink tutu or an elegant baby blue one, make sure there is a good dose of sparkle, and if you are a **bold, free-spirited* woman go for lots and lots of feathers, preferably with a flamboyant pattern! Maybe a few gems, to make you sparkle even more!
  • You *do* want your **tutu** to be the statement piece of your wardrobe and look absolutely spectacular, do not get me wrong. But be careful. A **tutu** might also make you want to *move* with a little extra flair! It can be a very persuasive garment! And trust me, no one wants to be the subject of a headline "Tutu Lady loses it on the Tube." A very unfortunate look indeed! But a **tutu** at its finest is a joy to behold! A delightful mix of fun and class!

Until next time, my dear reader, enjoy this marvelous era of **tututification**! Let's dance!
