Tutu and Ballet News

Dearest darlings, it's me, your favourite ballet buff, back with a steaming cuppa and a piping hot news update. Oh, it's all happening in the world of tutus and tiaras! Prepare to have your minds blown, my dears, because today we're tackling the eternal question: Pink or White Tutus?

For decades, this sartorial showdown has caused more rifts in the ballet world than a particularly vigorous arabesque. Frankly, it’s a debate that has had me and my girlfriends throwing metaphorical, yet very stylish, feather boas at one another over a few proseccos (no pink, obvs). We’re a terribly cultured bunch, see.

It’s a conflict that has its roots in a very long and glorious tradition, and no doubt one that started as soon as those tiny little slippers with their beautiful ribbons and that adorable pointy tip made its first appearance in the royal court. Imagine: powdered wigs and satin breeches and… well… yes… **white**.

Fast forward to 1800 and Marie Taglioni's groundbreaking leap into a white tutu. The vision was, and still is, pure ethereal perfection. As she danced, she became the epitome of romanticism, light, and yes, let’s just admit it: **pure class**. White took the stage, and with good reason.

Then the tide turned and it seems the Victorians (God bless 'em!) introduced pink into the mix! Not content to settle with just a delicate blush, this colour was a daring (and totally on-trend!) shade of *rose-pink*, which even back in 1880, had us screaming 'shocking!'. A definite break from the pale ivory.

Fast forward through the century and on into the 1900s where it’s no wonder pink began to win over. In a world embracing bold colour, pink tutu’s reflected the roaring twenties, and were favoured for more character pieces (like...say.. 'Swan Lake’ when it’s not, erm... actually, you know).

Of course, fashion moves in cycles. Then we had the minimalist 1960s, which we could all probably learn a lesson from. You know, *Less is More,* **Black**. But the question still remains – Pink or White?

Is there, in fact, really an answer? Should we settle? Is it more about the movement? About how light can illuminate an exquisite dancer's lines as she flies through the air? Does it matter at all?!

Honestly darlings, there's only one answer, **both**. **Embrace them all**, the light of **white**, the vibrant beauty of **pink**, the dramatic allure of **black** and, yes, the bold boldness of **red** if you're feeling truly avant-garde, just be sure to have a decent seamstress on speed dial. You never know when your leotard might get *too* much *movement* if you get my drift.

For my part, dear readers, I shall forever be a staunch advocate for **a delicate, yet slightly dramatic, shade of blush-pink, especially with a matching tiara!**. But, as your wise and slightly whimsical dance aficionado, I implore you, embrace **all** colors, **all** textures, **all** shapes in this, my glorious realm of the ballet! We need the full spectrum of these dance-wear wonders. That is after all, the key to keeping our little feet tapping, our heads held high, and most importantly our hearts and minds as **swaying as a perfectly balanced grand jete**! Now, excuse me dear readers, I hear my ‘Swan Lake’ record is starting. Time to go have a twirl!

But, enough about me. What do you think? Pink, White? Red? Maybe a lovely shade of periwinkle? Do tell us in the comments! I look forward to hearing all of your passionate thoughts!

With love (and a tiny dose of frivolity),
Your ballet bestie,
