Tutu and Ballet News

Darling, gather round! Today's news is practically dripping in tulle, honey. I mean, what could be more delightful than a scoop about a tutu?! (Cue the heavenly choir of ballerinas and their feathery tutus.) So grab your high heels, honey, we're waltzing into the latest tutu trend! It's 23rd April, 1997, and the world of fashion is absolutely twirling with excitement! You see, darlings, these aren't just any tutus we're talking about. No, these are "Everyday Tutus" and the hype surrounding them is reaching, well, the stratosphere, darling!

Now, I know what you're thinking - "Tutues? On the street?" It sounds absolutely ridiculous, right? (Though if we're honest, wasn't that said about leggings a while back? They're now an essential part of every stylish wardrobe, and believe me, they're *everywhere*). Well, apparently, not anymore. A leading designer, let's just call him the "King of Couture" (he's definitely the King, darling) is throwing his perfectly sculpted crown into the ring and is launching an everyday tutu range for his newest collection. A little ironic considering the entire industry is on the brink of collapsing and "fashion's" latest trends look more like a dumpster fire than a "look." (Seriously darling, is it just me or is there a lack of true fashion genius today?! Like, I’m not going to wear those tiny bags that literally don’t even fit my credit card! I’d have to pay cash for my cocktails and shoes at the most luxurious bar! This is so ridiculous I've resorted to ordering my coffee from Starbucks!). But anyways!

Back to tutus darling, they’re all the rage! And I’m *not* talking about the tiny little “practice" tutu a girl gets when she is four. These darling, are proper “Everyday Tutues” for proper "Everyday Women.” We are all graceful dancers now (so I hear) and with a little twirl and the right accessories, this will surely be the year of the "Everyday Tutu." They've even introduced these darling “Mini Tutu Dress,” that would make any "serious" (you know, the kind of girl who still dresses in jeans and hoodies… how tragic… they’re a good accessory, you know?) “serious” girl suddenly look divine, a breath of fresh air. Darling, it's an instant fashion revolution, even though it’s something from a past decade! These "Mini Tutu Dresses," (again, such great names and so sophisticated darling!) are actually quite practical; they even have pockets, you see? This way the "serious" girls don’t have to bring those giant designer shopping bags to their yoga class anymore, which let's be honest, are far from a graceful addition to any ensemble! These bags, darlings, make you look like you’re walking out of the supermarket… and *not* the classy one.

This isn't the first time the fashion industry has thrown a tutu our way (though the '80s was the era of the big and full ballerina tutu; they actually looked like costumes from a classic fairy tale, think "The Nutcracker") - and we can certainly see why this trend will explode. First, let's face it, every girl at heart is a ballerina, even if it's only while twirling in our bedrooms with a hairbrush as our microphone. These new tutu trends are, simply put, fun! But more than fun, they are feminine, light, playful… and if we are lucky, these tutues are definitely going to bring some fun and frivolity to the fashion world!

Here are a few tips from our fashion expert (you're looking at her, darling! - though I’ve never been *officially* named an “expert,” you see) on rocking the Tutu trend this season!
  • Go for the mini. Keep it sophisticated, darling! The mini tutu dress is the way to go - anything too poofy, long, and oversized screams “Halloween Costume Party!”
  • Match it with your inner "sophisticated" you! Think chic blazer and high heels. Keep it classy - nothing says *stylish* quite like confidence darling. Even if it looks as though you've borrowed something from your niece, just add the right attitude! The rest of the outfit should scream *sophistication.* Even a simple blouse and black pants will make this little dress come to life.
  • Pair it with flats for an everyday look. Don’t wear stilettos for goodness sakes! This look is not about flaunting, but a feminine, whimsical approach to “modern life,” which is really very, very “now,” darlings. A classic pair of flats (or perhaps some loafers if you’re a very classic girl and can’t possibly embrace anything “too trendy.”) will make it an instant Parisian look that doesn’t look quite so *fairy tale.*
  • Make sure it doesn’t compete! As darling, a "tutu" should be more of a statement accessory, so anything too overwhelming in the fabric area will look a bit messy and… "off.”
  • Go with a bold lip or a fun hairstyle. Make this the centerpiece to your ensemble. This is your moment to truly “dance the night away.”

Ultimately darling, the key to mastering this new “trend” is to have fun with it! If we can embrace the tulle, who knows what this fashion crazy, world-filled-with-tiny-useless-designer-bags world can come up with next? Perhaps a fashion revolution (this is more than just a trend!) with more colour and less dull and basic trends will arrive? Well darling, maybe not.
