**Tutu Trauma! Ballerinas Baffled by Body Image Boggle**

Darling, you wouldn't believe the drama unfolding in the hallowed halls of the Royal Ballet! It's not a case of pirouettes gone wrong, or a particularly wobbly arabesque. No, my dears, the ballet world is in a veritable *tizzy* over, of all things, *tutus*.

It all started, like most epic fashion disasters, with a well-meaning but ultimately disastrous attempt at innovation. The Royal Ballet, in an effort to embrace a more diverse body image (heaven knows they needed to! Those skinny jeans can only squeeze so tight!) announced that their dancers would be donning tutus in an array of hues - *gasp* - other than the traditional *pink* and *white*!

Can you imagine? Red tutus? Yellow tutus? Even a bold emerald green one spotted fluttering during rehearsals! The result was a complete aesthetic catastrophe!

Now, I'm a firm believer in pushing boundaries in the name of art, and of course ballet has a rich and exciting history of innovation, but *this* was simply a bridge too far. The delicate beauty of a classic ballet lies in its simplicity. Those soft pink and white tutus are as much a symbol of grace and purity as a perfect fifth position.

**The dancers, however, were far less enthused. The reaction was akin to an audience suddenly being subjected to an impromptu interpretive dance set to death metal - pure horror!

* **Prima ballerina Angelique Dupree was seen to utter a string of French expletives that would make a sailor blush before promptly throwing her cobalt tutu into the Thames!** * **"My mother said she was going to break my neck when she heard about this new "look!" I mean, my career has been built on these tutus - they are like my uniform, the *marque* of the profession!** " said understudy Brenda Brown, dabbing a stray tear from her mascara stained cheek while clutching a particularly fluffy pink tutu as if it were the Holy Grail of ballet fashion.

But it's not all gloom and doom. The debacle has revealed a surprising trend among ballerinas - a secret love affair with the colour *purple*! It seems, while many find a red or green tutu unsettling, the colour *purple*, a little bit regal, a little bit sultry, appears to be a new favourite. A little whisper tells me there's been a sharp uptick in orders for a particular lavender tutu from a designer known for his flamboyant creations (I can only guess he's a lover of a certain lilac lipstick) and, let's be honest, darling, who doesn't like a bit of *purple* glamour!

But don't expect to see those flamboyant lilac beauties on stage just yet, darling. There seems to be a huge, a really quite colossal, battle of the pink and white versus purple raging between the ballerinas. **The director's office has been transformed into a battleground of tulle and chiffon! Imagine the scene - a veritable whirlwind of tutu fabric flying everywhere in a glorious cacophony of colours and feathers!** I heard one young ballerina whimpered she wished they were "all wearing simple leotards, even a onesie would be better!".

The future of ballet, as you know darling, hangs by a tulle thread, and one thing is for sure, it's not all pretty pirouettes and graceful leaps. This little tutu drama proves that the ballet world is just as dramatic and glamorous (and maybe just a tiny bit unhinged) as any soap opera you might find on daytime television. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to make a trip to my favourite milliner to find myself a new headpiece for next season's show, and believe me, darling, it *has* to be a lilac colour - it would be simply *deplorable* if I weren't on-trend with these ballerina fashionistas!
