Tutu and Ballet News

Oh darlings, can you believe itā€™s June the 7th already? The summer's just begun, the sunā€™s shining, and you know what that meansā€¦ yes, the Wimbledon Championships, of course! But this year, my dears, Iā€™m afraid itā€™s going to be a real battle of the sequins rather than the tennis balls. Iā€™m talking, of course, about the shocking, daring, scandalous, completely unprecedentedā€¦ tutu invasion!

It all began with the esteemed Baroness Beatrice Bloomsbury, a formidable woman known for her impeccable taste and her habit of wearing Chanel No.5 even when bathing her Pekingese. She declared, in a statement issued on pink, diamante-encrusted paper, that she would no longer be attending the championship until ā€œthe dress code is rectified to reflect the elegance of the occasion." What she means, darlings, is that everyone, even the royal box, must start wearing tutus.

The Baronessā€™ proposal, predictably, has caused a storm. In the fashion world, opinions are, well, sharply divided. As you can imagine, the house of Dior, along with its designer John Galliano, is in raptures. Apparently, the new ā€œtutu chicā€ line will be unveiled this October. Expect to see lots of bouffant ballgowns, black velvet, and lots of sequins, and naturally, the signature tutu ā€“ the star piece. You will not be able to shop this look until Christmas, darlings. However, a Dior spokesperson confirmed the first hundred ā€œready-to-wearā€ tutus have already been sent to the royals for their consideration.

Other major designers are not so keen on the trend. Giorgio Armani has warned that tutus are "unrealistic" and uncomfortable to wear in the sun for an extended period. Gucci, while open to experimentation, said "tutus are not necessarily the way forward, although Gucci is open to a design partnership that combines the best of both worlds," a spokesperson for Gucci said. The sports world has also been divided. It seems the cricket club was enthusiastic about this development and, in a surprising move, announced that "a tutu may now be considered a part of the regulation cricket uniformā€.

Tennis pro's, however, have voiced strong objections to this development, particularly Andy Murray who stated "This whole tutu business is bonkers." He did not mention whether the Scottish weather might hamper his comfort in a tutu on a tennis court but added that "in terms of ball speed, a tutu doesnā€™t lend itself to athleticism in the same way as the regular tennis kit I normally wear". Meanwhile, the Australian womenā€™s tennis team are reported to be considering wearing "slightly modified" tutus during play, apparently to "enhance their performance".

Of course, it is not just about the sports, darling, but the fashion, and we are always excited about a new fashion trend. What we will be wearing this summer - tutus are going to be a huge hit, a true statement piece, darlings. So we must look fabulous while wearing them. What are you going to be wearing this summer?

The biggest question is - who can wear it best? The possibilities are endless. We all know how much the public love a good royal style clash. This may be just the opportunity for a new wave of ā€œroyal tutuā€ drama that has the fashion world buzzing.

Weā€™re waiting for Princess Dianaā€™s thoughts on this one, but we suspect, having seen Diana in a variety of ā€œinterestingā€ attire throughout her life, she would be all for the change, if you know what I mean.

But I think I will stick to a good cocktail dress, darlings. A tutu just is not quite my style, but there will always be one person for every trend, donā€™t you think?

And one more thing... the ballet world is not happy. Professional dancers feel they're getting ā€œmockedā€, they fear that people wonā€™t take their form of dance seriously anymore if everyone starts wearing tutus. They are saying that tutus are supposed to be a very important part of ballet, and now, it will become a bit "silly". But you know what I say... if people get interested in ballet again through the tutu fad then who are we to judge. Right?

As for me, darlings? I think Iā€™m going to ditch the tutu and stick to a nice classic sundress. I mean think about it: I might get a ballgown caught on the barbecue and what if it rains. I canā€™t risk that ruining my outfit. Maybe next year I'll consider trying a tutu, but for now, a good summer dress will do for me.

This new development has, however, opened my eyes to a new trend in fashion that I cannot deny. The tutu has the potential to become a true fashion icon and I donā€™t want to be caught out without one of my own before itā€™s too late!
