Tutus Take Over the World: It’s a Tutus-tastic Day!

Darlings, buckle up your pointe shoes because today, June 20th, 1997, is a day for celebration! The day of all days. The day when tulle, tiers and twirls are not just acceptable, they’re downright essential! It’s the day when every girl, woman, and frankly, any creature with a dash of glamour wants to be a ballerina!

Why, you ask? Because, my darlings, today we celebrate Tutus! Yes, those glorious, frothy, ethereal creations of chiffon, satin and sheer, almost indecent delight! We celebrate them in all their pink, ivory, black, and frankly, any colour you can possibly imagine. They’re practically edible, I tell you, they look that good!

Don’t tell me you haven’t seen the tutus in your neighbourhood shops! A veritable tutus tsunami, a cyclone of pink puffiness! You can’t throw a croissant without hitting a pair of them – although I wouldn’t recommend doing so, darlings, the mess could be unpardonable.

Even your local post office worker is rocking a tutu this morning. Who needs stamps when you have a cloud of tulle and a good swirl? Our beloved bakers are making them from dough, I even saw a few feathered friends strutting around with their own avian interpretations.

We know it’s a trend. But I’ll have you know that it’s more than just a trend, darling. It's a full-blown Tutu revolution, sweeping the nation (and frankly, probably the globe, by now!).

From the streets of London to the boulevards of Paris, the air is alive with a swirl of pink. You can’t throw a croissant without hitting one (see, told you!), they are absolutely EVERYWHERE. And what a beautiful, frilly, delightful sight they are!

Where it all Began - It’s All a Bit “Royal” You Know!

You know, darling, all this has to do with that royal wedding! I’m sure some would tell you that all the glitz and glamour that day simply sparked this. The Royal Wedding in all its glory, and we are positively all in awe of the Duchess's sense of style (what else?). The whole country was enthralled by those big, romantic, swirling gowns, the jewels, the love story… and frankly, it probably helped bring tutus into our hearts (or our shopping carts at least).

Here’s how to work a tutu (don’t worry, even the royals made mistakes – look it up!).

But darlings, let’s be honest – it’s not just the royal wedding inspiring us to embrace this fabulous piece of dancewear! I’m a girl who knows a tutu when I see one (especially after so many years at the barre!), and let me tell you, these tulle creations have always been secretly simmering in the back of our hearts and minds.

There are so many styles, so many colours, so many ways to wear a tutu – from a classic to the most avant-garde – frankly, you just need to embrace your own personal style, and own the tulle. Be creative, be confident. Go forth, and be a tutu rock star.

And I will give you my expert advice, from an old tutu pro. Remember – a tutu is a commitment! Don't take this lightly:

  • Never, ever let the bottom of the tutu trail on the ground - unless you want to go through life looking like a fashion-forward version of Marie Antoinette before that whole "head-chop" incident.
  • Wear some good, high-quality shoes! They don’t have to be ballet pumps, but make sure those little toes and heels aren’t exposed for too long – because my darlings, it just won’t look chic.
  • Keep it classy, ladies (or gents, or whatever you identify as). Your favourite tutu paired with a simple, classic T-shirt or cashmere cardigan is a simple, chic look that anyone can achieve. Pair it with something bold and glam – you’re basically guaranteed to be a rock star! But remember: Never, ever overdo the “accessorizing”, it can really take away from that gorgeous tulle! It should do the talking.

Tutu trends for you!

Now, dear readers, there's nothing more fabulous, exciting and, dare I say, magical than a good Tutu trend, And, as your trusted fashion guru, here is your very own *“tutu for you"* list of ideas:

  • The Royal Blush: If you’re going for elegance and a dash of royalty, my dear, you can't go wrong with a a pink or ivory tutu. Pair with pearls and a little sparkling something.
  • The Midnight Ballerina: Channel your inner goth darling – embrace black tutus, a smoky eye, and let the tulle do its magical, mysterious thing.
  • The Bohemian Dream: Feeling more boho, my love? Embellished with beads, lace, and a flowing peasant blouse or a vintage jacket, your tutu will look divine!
  • The Rebel Tutu: Oh, you dare! A bold, modern interpretation. You can choose vibrant hues, leather, ripped denim – frankly darling, if it doesn't look good, there’s probably no good reason for you to even consider it. But do! The beauty of the tutu, really, is in its flexibility!
  • The Colourful Twirl: A bright burst of sunshine and a good old-fashioned “twirl” is what every day needs! Get some good, bright colour, like cerulean blue, or a dazzling, deep crimson - go forth, my love, and paint the town!

So there you have it, my loves. Today’s the day – be bold! Be bright! And don't forget to wear your tulle with confidence. After all, darling, every day should feel like a celebration!
