Tutu and Ballet News

Well, darlings, it’s another glorious day in the world of ballet! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the tutus are, well, they’re being utterly fabulous as always.

Now, let’s talk about tutus! Today, 10th July 1997, has been dubbed ‘National Tutu Day’ by none other than the fabulous and fabulously glamorous, Lady Di. Apparently, she was a huge fan of tutus - she loved the frothy, frilly perfection. And you know what, we can’t argue with that! Who doesn’t adore a good tutu?

From the whimsical pouter pigeon of Swan Lake to the elegant simplicity of a classic Giselle, the tutu has a captivating presence. It can take a woman from the ordinary to the ethereal. There’s just something about that swirling skirt that brings out the ballerina within us all, wouldn't you say?

But let’s be real, darling, sometimes, even the most magnificent tutu can fall victim to a little…well, shall we say, "drama"? Let me share a little behind-the-scenes story, shall we? One time, during a performance of Swan Lake, a mischievous little tutu, shall we say, “made a dramatic exit” during the corps de ballet’s famous swan sequence. Now, as it turns out, a little pigeon had taken a particular shine to the white feathers, making the whole thing rather amusing, especially for those sitting front row. The poor ballerina tripped and nearly did a faceplant onto the stage, thankfully she kept her composure. That tutu? Never quite lived down the “Pigeon-theft" incident.

Anyway, let’s have some fun with tutus, shall we?
  • Here are some of our favourite things to wear under tutus, (hint: comfort over glamour for these busy girls - nothing is more important for performance!):
    • A simple leotard. It’s a classic, darling, and it looks fabulous on anyone!
    • Some cute little tights, preferably those shimmery ones with all the fancy designs.
    • Now, a great secret is a good old-fashioned pair of granny knickers to secure everything!
The great Tutu Debate:
  • Some folks think tutus are outdated, darling. They say they’re all frills and flourishes with nothing substantial beneath. I disagree. We just have to embrace the whimsy and remember, darling, it’s about the performance and how that fabulous costume looks under the stage lights!

Okay, darlings, let’s end this delightful journey into the world of ballet tutus with some truly remarkable news: a very special collection of hand-beaded, en pointe tutus is launching today, by none other than Karl Lagerfeld! Rumor has it, there are diamond embellishments. What an absolutely fabulous way to celebrate a day like today! The whole world is buzzing about this glamorous debut, with top ballerina’s begging to snag their hands on the first editions.

Right then, darling, we’ll leave you with one final, important thought. Be yourself. Embrace the ballerina in your heart, and if a tutu is what it takes to feel utterly radiant and glamorous…then, well, then, you wear it well! And never forget to do it all with style, panache, and just a dash of chutzpah! You got this!
