Tutu and Ballet News

Oh, darling, have you heard? There’s been a *right* old fuss over tutus this week. It’s all the rage, pet, I simply must tell you about it. As you know, I'm not one to *ever* miss a scandal in the world of ballet, but this one is quite simply *divine*. And honestly, I thought we were all *done* with tutus in this modern age! You’d think everyone would be too busy perfecting their arabesques and pirouettes for a little fashion faux pas! But I'm here to tell you, dears, it's 2005, and those tulle wonders are back in the news – and the centre of *every* controversy!

The drama began at the Royal Opera House, where the crème de la crème of the ballet world, those elegant, swan-like creatures, were performing Swan Lake. It was glorious, you know, those breathtakingly beautiful figures, gliding through the air in their **gorgeous** white tutus, with their soft, dreamy, romantic... and oh, by the way, *pink*! Apparently, some of our favourite dancers took it upon themselves to go off script, and well, the stage suddenly became a riot of colour!

Now, I’m *not* talking about the classic, tasteful ballet pink. You know, the softest, subtlest blush that just makes the tutus a little less *stark* on stage. This, dears, was *shocking*. Hot pink. **HOT** pink. As though the girls had raided a child's birthday party and then taken to the stage, all glitter, sparkles, and shocking colour. The tutus, those usually exquisite, graceful symbols of all things graceful and refined... were actually *flaring* with such intensity that the *ballet itself* got lost in the hue!

Naturally, there’s been *quite* a kerfuffle. You’d think the nation’s *national* art form had collapsed, or that *everything* as we know it, was doomed. Some have cried foul – tutus are to remain pristine, untarnished, they argue. This was simply *sacrilege*! Others, the bolder spirits, said: why not? It was a change, *refreshing* and *daring*, a *celebration* of the *diversity* of our artistic talents. A *bold statement* that even those wearing tutus *could* defy convention. As long as it doesn’t mean ditching the leotard (I’m *not* sure our ballet stars could ever stomach that), *what’s the harm*?

Honestly, I must say that my eyes were firmly fixed on the stage during those hot pink outbursts. Yes, it was certainly, let's just say, *a little unexpected* – a jolt of colour in the middle of this elegant ballet. I *couldn't* help but find myself clapping along to the music *and* marvelling at those outrageous, eye-catching pink wonders. After all, my dear, even tutus, *in this day and age* have a *right* to a bit of individuality, *don’t you think*?

Speaking of individuality, there's a *whole* world of tutus out there now. Those classic tutus - the iconic white tulle, the soft, gentle ballerina pink - *they’re* still holding firm, I assure you. But they are being *joined* by the bravest of newcomers: glittery tutus for the dazzling, feathered tutus for the whimsical, even – **brace yourselves** – *denim tutus* for those who truly like to push the boundaries! *Yes, darling!* Denim. The stuff of everyday, casual living. Suddenly, the *grand stage* isn’t *so* different from our daily lives.

Personally, I’ve *always* believed that the magic of the tutu lies in its *fluidity*. And what’s more fluid, and *feminine* and *beautiful* than a *cloud* of soft white tulle, gracefully cascading around the dancer? And yet, a little bit of daring? It doesn’t *hurt*, does it? Maybe just a splash of colour. Or maybe, just maybe, we could use these tutus to tell *stories*...*thoughts*, *feelings*. A bit like *poetry*.

Of course, I can hear you wondering: is this a new trend in tutus the real deal or just a momentary flash in the pan? Will we see all shades of the rainbow *flying* around the stage? I *cannot* answer this, my dears. But here’s one thing I *do* know: the ballet world is an *ever-changing* entity. I *wouldn’t* bet against more *wild*, *creative*, *dare I say it* *fabulous* moments happening in our *lovely* little tutu world.

I suppose there's nothing quite so intriguing as watching a dancer turn, spin and pirouette in an extravagant tulle tutu. And I know this sounds odd, but, well, the colour really *does* say it all, *don’t you think*?
