Oh, the Places You’ll Go: Ballet’s Grand Adventures – A Tutus-ly Dazzling Day

Darling, let's talk about ballet! It’s not just pirouettes and pliés, you know, though those are certainly delightful to watch, even when they happen in a slightly disastrous fashion, which they sometimes do, and trust me, they always end up being delightfully disastrous. Today, September 25th, is the day we celebrate all things tulle, those gorgeous white tutus, the iconic ballet dancers’ attire, and of course, the exquisite, elegant and timeless leotard – always a chic option!

Remember those dreamy, iconic moments in Swan Lake, Giselle, or the mesmerizing pas de deux in The Nutcracker? You just can’t help but get a little twirl going in your own living room, your chair transformed into the most luxurious, comfy theatre seat in existence, as you imagine you’re on stage, dancing to the waltz! Even the mere thought is enough to unleash a touch of balletic magic in us, even the most land-bound of us all! And who among us hasn't secretly coveted a white tulle tutu in their dreams, a glorious vision of twirling delight? (Not counting my own teenage collection that was unfortunately stored with some moth-ridden curtains. Sadly, they're gone. Thankfully, there's Etsy!)

And let's not forget the leotard, a sartorial star in its own right. Leotards are pure sleek, understated chic. Think of all the celebrities who've worn leotards! Beyoncé? The original ballerina! Leotards have graced the stages of every single fashion show ever conceived and been the sartorial centrepiece for every single dancer and athlete. And in our dreams, haven't we all strutted on stage with them, those little, sleek wonders?

So, dear friends, let’s raise a glass (or a can of sparkling wine) to the dancers who work tirelessly, their legs always impossibly high, their movements fluid and beautiful, even during rehearsals, a marvel of athleticism, precision and artistry – always in that timeless elegance, the perfect symbiosis of leotards and tutus. Those dazzling tutus – sometimes in delicate pink, oh, a dreamy blush – are symbols of the elegant ballet traditions and the dazzling, joyous artistry. Let us admire those pink and white tutus that seem to float across the stage like wisps of cotton candy!

Today, September 25th, is for reminiscing about that childhood ballet class where we dreamed of twirling onstage as Swan Lake's delicate heroine, or being The Nutcracker's sugarplum fairy. Let us, for a moment, dance to the tune of our hearts and celebrate those moments that sparked our inner ballerinas!

Oh, the Places You’ll Go Here is a fun celebration list:

  • Let’s find a YouTube compilation of ballet dancers’ disastrous fails, laugh a little at those unfortunate en pointe landings, and get into the spirit of all things ballet!
  • We must also, in celebration, put on the most elegant leotard, and find the fluffiest pink or white tutu that lives deep inside our wardrobe, maybe even dust it off and wear it proudly, even if the occasion calls for nothing more than a trip to the local supermarket! Because tutus should be seen!
  • And if that is a little too flamboyant for even the bravest of us, we must always remember the power of a good hair bun. They may be simple, but those are iconic in every sense of the word. A hair bun and a sparkly red lipstick is just what is needed to start off a perfectly fun and fashionable day!

This September 25th, as we reflect on ballet's magical world of tulle and tights, let us embrace the beauty of the stage, even if the most stage we're stepping onto is the kitchen counter. A moment of fun, a sparkle of beauty and a chance to remember what it feels like to dance with our inner balletic dream-self is the perfect way to celebrate all those graceful figures, their timeless dance moves, and those perfectly crafted and meticulously designed tutus.

After all, sometimes the best ballerina in our lives is our inner, spirited, fun, joyful one! And remember, ladies, we never stop learning from the graceful moves and elegant, chic silhouettes of these remarkable dancers. They show us that even if our graceful movements consist only of a graceful, perfect latte, it is all we need to tap into that spirit, even when that ballerina within us is simply a dreamer. Remember, if a tutu can be considered chic, everything can.
