Tutu and Ballet News

**Get Ready To Pointe Your Toes, Darling!**

It’s that time of year again, lovelies! The time when the world becomes obsessed with all things twirling and elegant – no, not the annual whirl of London Fashion Week (though that’s rather brilliant too, isn't it?). It's the magical arrival of National Tutu Day! That's right, dear readers, every 15th March, we celebrate the magnificent tulle that brings the ballet to life! (I’m thinking specifically about the kind with sequins, of course.)

You know I love a bit of dance, don’t you? All that prancing, the music, and, of course, those impossibly graceful dancers. There’s something undeniably breathtaking about a corps de ballet executing their pliés and arabesques in perfect unison. But it’s the tutus, darling, that really make my heart sing! Their sheer volume, their flutter, the way they almost take on a life of their own - I'm practically hypnotised! Imagine the work involved: stitching all those layers of tulle into the most delicate confection!

From the iconic **pink tutu** of the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker (the classic choice for many a young ballerina, I'm sure) to the **white tutus** favoured by the ethereal ballerinas in Swan Lake, they're the symbol of beauty, grace, and sheer femininity.

You're probably thinking that you're not able to participate, love, because you haven't taken up ballet. Oh darling, how wrong you are! National Tutu Day is for everyone. I mean, who can resist the joy of twirling around in a bit of tulle? Whether it’s in your garden, at your local park, or even just in your own sitting room, just you, a few layers of beautiful fabric, and some music (perhaps the graceful tunes of Tchaikovsky? No? Vivaldi’s Four Seasons will do!).

To celebrate, my darlings, I have a few *fabulous* suggestions for making your own tutu day absolutely divine:

  • Have a Tutu Tea Party: Invite your friends, pour the tea, whip up a few cakes (you might want to add a few ballet-themed cookies), and let your inner ballerina shine in a tutu. The sillier the better, dear readers!
  • Do a tutu photoshoot. Remember your ballet days in your school hall with the awful blue and brown carpet? Now is the time for revenge! Capture your ballerina spirit on film. If you haven’t got one, you’ll just have to buy one for the occasion! Pink, of course, my dear, in the classic *pink tutu* style!
  • Try Ballet for a Day. I’m not talking about mastering the *en pointe* moves (you could leave that to the pros!), but find yourself a ballet class, and give it a whirl! Who knows, you may discover a secret talent (I doubt it darling but one can always hope).
  • Watch a Ballet. This one should be easy peasy. You'll be surrounded by gorgeous twirls, jumps and exquisite artistry. And remember darling, let your imagination run wild! Tutus may have taken centre stage in ballet, but today it's *you* that deserve the limelight!

And darling, should you find yourself longing for a real, actual, ballerina tutu? There’s always the internet, and let me tell you, those shops selling ballet apparel, from tights to tutus are *wonderful* for finding that perfect, classic piece. The key darling, is to make sure your tulle is a little voluminous. Why? Well darling, when we are talking about tutus we're talking big, dramatic, and eye-catching! Go ahead, darlings, twirl, and be bold! I’m *totally* with you!
