Tutu and Ballet News

**Tutues, Tutus, Everywhere!**

Darling, gather 'round! It's time to get all dolled up for a whirlwind of tutus, twirls, and a whole lot of glitter! Today, my dears, is a day to celebrate the absolute divine absurdity of ballet, those delicate little fairies prancing around in pink, and all things "I just want to twirl!"

And oh, how I love to twirl! (My darling chihuahua, Henri, however, isn't quite so enthused, he always barks and then runs for cover - he's such a drama queen!)

So, darlings, where do we start with this whimsical wonderland of pointe shoes and tutus? Well, how about we first acknowledge that it's completely bonkers! I mean, imagine a real swan going about its day looking as elegant and poised as those ballerinas in the *Swan Lake* – absolutely hysterical! Let's face it, most swans look more like a disgruntled pigeon than anything else.

But oh, how the world of ballet transcends common sense!

Take those leotards, for example. I'd wear one if it didn't come with the obligation of being able to do a split on a whim – because you just *never* know! The last thing we want is a "split fail" in public, do we darling? Oh, the humiliation! And those leotards! Are they made of spun sunshine? So tiny, so stretchy, so ... you guessed it - oh, just "fabulous"!

Don't even get me started on those little ballerinas - my own precious ballerina darling. Let's just say that there have been more than a few unfortunate wardrobe malfunctions on her dance floor - one incident involved a stray finger and a rather uncomfortable un-clipping of a tutu on stage, you know, right in the middle of *The Nutcracker* - it's all quite delightful, actually. Of course, it never stops a ballerina's dream - they're far too devoted and stubborn!

Speaking of the divine dreamers, let's give those ballerinas the credit they deserve. They go through years of intense training. Think "torture" - and I don't mean the fashion magazine, although their workouts certainly give you some "wow-worthy" legs and abs - I'm talking ballet barres and endless, brutal repetition. Imagine doing the same "demi-plié" a hundred times over – you'd be wishing you'd gone into the theatre! And yet they keep coming back. These ballerinas? They are goddesses amongst us! They practically defy gravity - in tiny tutus, mind you! A bit of hairspray on a messy bun is one thing, but balancing on a pointe shoe? A whole different story - give these darlings an award! It takes years of sheer determination, a serious, serious pair of calves and enough discipline to shame the Queen!

What a testament to strength and grace - that is what it really comes down to: sheer, raw, delightful strength in a world that, admittedly, can feel just a tad, shall we say, ridiculous at times - and let's face it, darlings, what's life without a little bit of silliness? It's why we watch them: because they dare to defy common sense! These ladies (and some gents, of course) make us forget all of the mundanity and real-life "dramas" - because, oh, darling - *ballet is drama* - it's everything: high kicks, elegant grace, a tiny bit of pain (I know this from first hand, I had my daughter enrolled at the Royal Ballet school when she was 4 and I had to watch as they were tortured through pliés every class - but darling - "just watch" I said, "the results are divine"! You just *have* to have a sense of humour!

Ballet, in a nutshell? A touch of theatrics - in pink! Think of it as a big dress-up party with a sprinkle of elegant drama - think *La Bohème*, darling! It's like having the Moulin Rouge with an English twist – if that's at all possible – in a tutu!

You can see, darling, there's nothing subtle about the ballet! And this isn't just any tutu we are talking about! We are talking the *classic* tutus. You know, the ones they put those gorgeous ballet dancers into. It's not your average, every day kind of tutu - these are *professional* - the ones with layers of soft tulle that give a bounce to the dress - if you don't have the bounce to match the tutu... then just go straight for the "dance and sing along" seats! I know this all too well as my daughter's tutu got bigger and the "dance and sing along" section just started growing bigger.

Now, I've been known to wear a pink tutu to a fancy-dress party. Mine wasn't the kind you get at the ballet - I prefer something more sparkly! But those classical pink, fluffy ballet tutus? Darling, they're the essence of ballet! Imagine wearing a *pink* tutu - well, that's like the ultimate symbol of dance - the true essence! If you don't have pink, go for white - the classic combo - if you want to stand out then go bold with the colour, but you can't really go wrong! The pink ones - oh, just beautiful!

If you really want to step it up, darling, try dancing! If you're not quite a swan - or as dramatic as Henri - don't worry! You don't need to be an actual dancer to get into ballet, darling. If you like the dance - go for it, and I suggest the pink tutu - just watch the rest of the audience look at you with admiration. It is such a good mood-booster. It's the quintessential *ooh, la-la!* And the ballet gives us a chance to embrace the silliness - to celebrate life in its most elegant, scampering and utterly ludicrous form, with an appreciation for something so wonderfully feminine. And for all those "grown up" ballerina darlings out there, this day, dear friends, is all yours! So go on, be fabulous, darling, because, in ballet, you can literally make any outfit a costume, so go all out! Embrace your inner ballerina darling, just be sure to tell everyone that the news just went 'tu-tu' for you today!
