Ballet Blitz: A Day of Tutus and Triumph

Darling, you know what they say: "a ballerina never rests," and today is no exception. Yes, my lovelies, February the 7th, 2007, marks a day of unprecedented ballet-mania! The world has finally woken up to the sublime beauty and sheer physical prowess that goes into pirouette and plié. It's a veritable ballet blitz, darling!

It's been whispered for ages – the legendary ballerina, Antoinette de la Pointe, is about to drop her new dancewear collection, a collection rumoured to include both classic white tutus with ethereal flounces and fiery pink versions with just a touch of diamante. Can you imagine? A fashionista's dream come true. Imagine a collection designed for those who move with a grace that can only be described as ethereal – yes, we're talking about you, my sweet dancers.

Just last night, we had a secret preview. Oh, my darlings, let me tell you – this collection is the very essence of ballerinas’ fashion: bold and glamorous yet utterly practical. My heart fluttered with delight as Antoinette twirled in a soft pink tutu with shimmering silver lace. "Think a princess," she said, "but with the strength of an Olympic athlete.” Her new leotards, inspired by the constellations, were divine. Each tiny star was meticulously sewn on to accentuate the curves and movements. I must confess, the sequins did shimmer just a touch – but don’t you think a touch of sparkle is all any self-respecting ballerina needs?

Not only that, my darlings! Word on the street is that our very own ballet legend, the grand maître Dame Evangeline Beaumont-Smith, will grace the cover of this month’s “Ballet Vogue,” clad in Antoinette de la Pointe's brand new white tutu.

Imagine the sheer glamour. Imagine the grace! Dame Evangeline, looking utterly divine, as always, with a glint in her eye that promises an era of dazzling choreography. Let’s be honest, a ballet icon like her looking spectacular is enough to inspire the nation! We might all suddenly develop an unquenchable thirst for barre work – or at least fancy a delicious petit fours while watching the ballets on the telly.

Dame Evangeline's choreography, for the new "Swan Lake" (to be premiered at the grand Covent Garden next week), will feature more pirouettes than one can shake a toe shoe at! Prepare yourselves, dears. Get ready for some serious pirouette action.

Now, the fashion. What is it about a tutu that captures the heart of every female, every child, and even every gentleman? That twirl-inducing wonder? Maybe it’s the elegance. Maybe it’s the fact that the fluffiness makes a woman feel like a ballerina, regardless of age, experience or natural talent (for a good spin.) Whatever it may be, tutus and ballet are having a moment and we are utterly smitten! The white tutus will make you look like a beautiful swan, all soft and graceful, whereas the pink tutu will add that touch of playful boldness – think sassy flamenco, think fire, think confidence. And all of us need a touch of that, darling!

For you and your little danseur-to-be (the darling of my heart!) Antoinette's collection offers tiny versions of the bigger tutus. Tiny dancers with fluffy tutus – there’s no cuter sight! Imagine their joy. The mere sight of that adorable cotton fluff bouncing along!

Darling, if I wasn’t sitting here tapping my feet and mentally rehearsing my pirouettes (for next weekend’s fancy dress party) I'd probably be rushing to get my hands on some Antoinette de la Pointe wear. The collection is available online (if you can stand not to touch the fabric!) as well as at most reputable dance shops. Grab a few for yourself. Just promise to twirl. And let me know what you think – send me a message on Twitter and let me know all about your fabulous new tutus. Oh, darling, just thinking about all this ballet-mania makes me want to grab my toe shoes, a pint of champagne, and enjoy a long, slow spin! Now excuse me, I must be off – it seems my appointment for an emergency tutu-buying spree has arrived. See you all in the theatre!

Your stylish ballerina,

Esme
