Tutu and Ballet News

**25th March 2007: Tutu Trouble - Ballet's Big Day Out!**

Darling, it’s been a long, hard week. Work, the gym, catching up with the girls, it's all a bit much, isn't it? You just need a bit of **fairytale magic** to lift your spirits, and you know what they say: "If life throws you lemons, make a *lemony* meringue tutu!" So, settle down, put your feet up and let me whisk you away to the utterly delightful world of **ballet**.

You may think I'm bonkers but I have the best news! Today is the day to unleash your inner ballerina. It's "International Ballet Day"! That's right, **a whole day dedicated to the elegant art of dancing on your tippy toes** (although let's be honest, most of us can't even reach the end of a "tippy" without toppling over like a domino). It's an international celebration of **tutus, leotards, and the perfect plié**, a glorious excuse to pull on that sparkly leotard, pop your bun and just let loose, **because who doesn't love a good pirouette in the privacy of their own living room** (if it's done in public you might just get a raised eyebrow and maybe even a ticket for indecent exposure!).

I know, I know, **ballet is supposed to be all grace and elegance**. But frankly, darling, most of us look more like a drunken flamingo than a swan, **especially when those pesky pointe shoes decide they want to be independent agents**. Honestly, I've got more toe cramps from trying to shimmy about on my tippy-toes than a whole year of killer heels.

And what about **tutus?** The sheer volume of tulle in one tutu is enough to build a house, or maybe just a miniature gazebo. Just **imagine a world without these tulle wonders?** Where would all the pigeons live, especially the pigeons who think they own my balcony (you know what I'm talking about darling!)?

Don't even get me started on the colour, the **tutu is all about the dramatic**, which brings me to **today’s hot topic**: pink and white! These two beauties are like the best pair of best friends you could ask for. Pink? She's all girly and sweet with just a hint of "I'm about to make you blush, darl!". And then you have white! Effortless sophistication and the colour that never goes out of style. Oh and, **don’t forget the white swan leotard. I love its classic grace!** It’s the ultimate elegant power move. (Who am I kidding? I want to own a white swan leotard because, let’s be honest, they’re comfy.)

**But remember, darling, there's no dress code for International Ballet Day**. Just channel your inner prima ballerina and **go wild**. (Although you might want to take the glitter off your outfit before you go out - because let’s be honest, sparkles just attract attention!)

Now, where did I put that "I'd rather be a ballerina" tote bag?

**Let’s take a look at the top reasons to celebrate International Ballet Day**:

  • **You get to wear a tutu**. Oh yes! This is the real reason why International Ballet Day is a total blast! What is more awesome than a fluffy tulle skirt with tiny ribbons? And the best thing about a tutu? It's comfy and lets your legs breathe!
  • **It's a day to dance like no one is watching**. (Okay, it's a lie. The neighbors definitely peek through the windows - but pretend you don't see them.)
  • **You can practice those graceful ballet moves.** The “chassĂ©,” “arabesque,” the "port de bras," - those fancy ballet terms mean nothing if you haven't got the grace of a professional ballerina. But hey, **it's about the effort, right?** It's not like there's an exam for it. (Who knows though, you could get called in for "The Ballet Show") Just make sure you're dancing like nobody is watching you, especially if you haven't worn proper ballet shoes in ten years - and that was when you tried out the local ballet classes and lasted five minutes! But even that was great for a laugh, remember that story?! The teacher’s face when she saw me jump! Priceless!
  • **You get to try new ballet moves**. I recommend practicing the *pirouette*. Think how lovely that will look in the mirror - you know what they say “A little black dress is a must-have; and a perfect pirouette can be your ultimate style statement”!**
  • **You can try new ways to wear your hair**. Forget about messy buns and boring braids, this is the day to embrace those beautiful ballet buns! Who knows, you may discover a new look - something sleek and sophisticated. Just make sure that those bobby pins are good - a loose bun at the wrong time, is embarrassing, darling!
  • **It's a day to watch your favorite ballet movies.** Who doesn't love the classic *The Red Shoes*? Now that’s what I call a tutu! And don't forget to watch that amazing "Black Swan"! Don’t even try that look darling, no matter how tempting!

International Ballet Day is an amazing day! So make it fabulous. You know what to do! Put on your most sparkly leotard, practice your most graceful ballet moves, grab a glass of prosecco and **let's raise a glass to the grace, elegance, and tutus of the ballet world!**
