Tutu and Ballet News

**Tut-tastic News! A Day For Dance and Diamonds!**

Dearest readers, today, on this gloriously sunny Tuesday, 02 May 2007, is a day to celebrate all things tutu and tiara. Yes, that's right, we're raising a glass – or, more accurately, a champagne flute – to the magic and wonder of ballet!

It’s time to slip on our most stylish ballet slippers (yes, those dainty ones with the satin ribbon!), grab a glass of something bubbly and prepare for an afternoon of delightful, dance-tastic pronouncements! Because this, my darlings, is **Tutu Tuesday**!

The ballet world is buzzing with excitement today. And why wouldn’t it be? Today, we pay homage to the most elegant, twirling, beautiful form of dance there is.

Let’s be honest, wouldn't you just love to gracefully float across the stage in a perfectly fitted white tutu, a feather boa swirling behind you, with the most magnificent diamond tiara shimmering in your hair? Me too! Okay, perhaps not with the feathers, they might get caught on my lipstick.

We've all been there, standing in the wings of our lives, clutching our feather boas (a little tight in this weather!), the lights blazing, feeling a little apprehensive, a little bit nervous and a little bit absolutely brilliant about being there! It’s like, the pressure is on. It’s just you and the stage, and thousands of eyes, hoping for you to, quite literally, steal the show!

There are no do-overs when it comes to performing on the world’s stage, it’s one shot, and it’s going to be EPIC. Because today is the day to step up your dance moves, put on your most sparkly tutu and strut your stuff!

Now, hold on to your tiaras, because it’s time for a bit of **Tutu-ology**!

Today’s news item has been curated just for you! So sit back, relax and, as a treat for your ears, here is the most delightful selection of the week:

  • Did you know that the word "tutu" is derived from the French word "tutu," which was a popular style of skirt worn in the late 19th century? It’s true! Apparently, the phrase caught on due to its onomatopoeic, sort of “twirling and whirring” sound that was perfectly in tune with a ballerina's twirling, flitting movements. It's basically the musicality of a skirt!
  • Speaking of onomatopoeic, tutus were never so glamorous back in the day. It was just a style of dress for women, much like today, but less structured and more flamboyant. Nowadays, when people think of the word "tutu" they instantly think of ballet. Well, don't we all, it's the epitome of elegance, so it’s not a bad place to be associated with. I reckon if people thought of tutus the way they used to think about tutus – just a big bunch of fluffiness – that wouldn't exactly be inspiring. Oh my, I can just imagine all those dresses and skirts from the Victorian era! They look as if they just need a good dusting! But back to ballet. Let's talk colour – shall we?
  • Did you know that there are only two basic colours that represent tutus: white and pink? Why? You may ask? Well, my darlings, the reasons are simple, white is purity and pink is love and both of these shades represent everything ballet represents.
  • When we look at ballerinas dancing on stage in all their glorious, tutu-ed wonder, we know that they’re working their magical talents for us. The dance, the costumes and the sheer wonder of the theatre bring the ultimate artform alive before our very eyes.
  • When you see ballerinas dancing on the world stage in their pristine, elegant, beautiful costumes we’re transported to another world. It’s pure escapism and as much as I love being glamorous on stage, when you see ballerinas, and the perfection they exhibit, it’s pretty special. It makes me want to run for the studio!

The next time you think of ballet, think of Tut-tastic Tuesday and imagine yourself gracefully dancing across the stage. Imagine wearing your favourite sparkling white or pink tutu – your inner ballerina will thank you.

Until next week, stay fashionable and keep your ballet slippers on!
