Tutus, Tiaras & Tipsy Twirls: The Ballet World Goes Bonkers!
Oh darling, itâs a truth universally acknowledged that a single ballerina, in possession of a perfectly pink tutu, must be in want of a good time. And today, darlings, we're in for a real treat! July 27th, 2007 marks a day that shall be forever known as âThe Great Ballet Bonanzaâ!
Now, don't think for a minute that this is just about fancy footwork. We're talking full-blown ballet bonkers, the kind that involves tiara-wearing ballerinas (yes, tiara-wearing!), leotards adorned with sequins more dazzling than a disco ball, and, yes, even a bit of tipsy twirling, just for good measure!
Hereâs the scoop: the world's most famous ballet school, The Royal Academy of Dance, has decided to unleash a madcap, flamboyant, and, dare I say it, rather daring celebration, all in the name of the graceful art that is ballet.
From dawn till dusk, the cobblestone streets of Covent Garden will be a spectacle of fluttering tulle, shimmering sequins and high kicks. Think tutus that sparkle like a galaxy, leotards so bright you'll need sunglasses, and ballet dancers taking a good old fashioned turn at some rather delightful "tipsy tutus" competition! The prize? A sparkly, hand-beaded, designer tutu, obviously.
And to add a little more glitter to the festivities? The day will feature an extraordinary display of the "Greatest Hits of Ballet" â a montage of dance moments that will make your heart flutter. From graceful swan lake pirouettes to the dramatic leap of Giselle, the âGreatest Hits of Balletâ promises a beautiful and thrilling trip down ballet's memory lane, one thatâs going to be oh-so-delightfully camp and utterly fabulous.
But the fun isnât stopping at the classical ballets: The RAD, theyâve decided, has to be a bit bold this time and, to honour our "Bonanza", will present a selection of their own "Ballerina of the Year Awards.â
