Tutu and Ballet News

Oh darling, have you heard? It's 29th August 2007. The most fabulous day of the year (well, nearly as fabulous as my birthday, but shush)! You see, 29th August is *National Tutu Day*. Yes, that's right. It's the day to celebrate those glorious symbols of femininity and elegance: **the tutu**. Honestly, can you imagine a world without tutus? It would be like a perfectly coiffed meringue without the sugar - just terribly, terribly dull.

Now, I know what you're thinking: "Tutus? Really? Isn't that a bit passé?" Darling, no! Tutus are a timeless classic. They're like a Chanel jacket: chic, sophisticated, and never ever out of fashion. Sure, there have been a few questionable trends over the years: the overly voluminous '80s tutu, the strangely utilitarian "functional" tutu that looked like something your grandma would knit you - the horrors! But, for every unfortunate faux pas, there are countless stunning examples of tutu brilliance. Just think of the magnificent tutus in classics like *Swan Lake*, *Giselle*, and *Sleeping Beauty*. You simply can't deny the artistry and beauty of these feather-light wonders. They're essentially a dance-wear masterpiece. Not just something that pretty ballerinas wear. The magic comes from the light catching and scattering from their layers. Absolutely breathtaking!

I'm all about celebrating tutus of all shades and sizes. Whether you prefer the classic pink or the ethereal white (no, we won't mention the dreaded **black** tutu - they're practically forbidden in the world of elegant ballet!), there's a tutu out there for every dancer. And even if you've never worn one in your life, I'm betting you can picture a glamorous, swan-like ballet dancer wearing one. A vision of grace and poise, all swirling tulle and feather-light movements. The pure essence of artistry, embodied in a dress made of pure whimsy. Don't you just love it?! Isn't it a magnificent image?

Let's face it: the world would be a far less delightful place without the glorious tutu. It's a symbol of beauty, artistry, and, yes, even a little bit of magic. So, let's celebrate **National Tutu Day** by spreading a little joy and wonder wherever we go. After all, who can resist a dash of pink tulle in their lives?

In honour of this glorious occasion, I have devised a little celebration guide for you lovely, lovely dancers, and fans of our wondrous dance!

For your home:**

  • Turn your living room into a miniature ballet studio. Hang some pretty tulle from your lamps or even decorate your table with a miniature pink tutu for a vase of lilies! It's amazing how much of an impression it makes.
  • Play your favourite ballet soundtrack on repeat (Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky - a master!), or have a delightful Tchaikovsky singalong with your friends!
  • Prepare some *à la russe* treats - tiny finger sandwiches with smoked salmon and horseradish or a delightful lemon tart, decorated with a white, ballerina-inspired icing design. If you can, create a tiny sugar-coated *petit four* which is in the shape of a mini tutu! Delicious!
  • Invite some friends for a "ballet party" with games like "pin the point shoe on the dancer". Even better if you are really fancy - take the time to create your own miniature ballerinas, using paper plates or cards, for your pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey-style game! The options are truly endless! Don't forget the champagne - the ballerinas like to dance!

For the street:

  • Try a delightful ballet inspired, tutu-tastic, outfit with some pink or white details. Let the light sparkle off the tulle on your fabulous dress. Perhaps a white linen dress with a pale pink trim? Alternatively, a stylish white dress with a soft tulle overlay is just stunning! It doesn't have to be over the top, but there is a perfect "ballet-lite" outfit for every type of personality and for any kind of occasion.
  • Put a tutu (even if it's tiny - a white ballerina scarf works perfectly) on your pet dog. Imagine the "Awwwws" when you take them for a walk!
  • If you have an upcoming wedding, incorporate some pale tulle into your outfit. Imagine a beautifully delicate white tulle fascinator as part of a bridal look? It will definitely stand out!
  • And what better way to celebrate than with a delightful lunch with your friends - just be sure to ask them to dress in pink or white (the ballet colours of choice!).

Whatever you choose to do, remember: have fun with it! Because at the end of the day, National Tutu Day is all about embracing your inner ballerina, your inner girly-girl, your inner fashionista. The most fabulous tutus don't have to be worn on a dance floor, you know. They can be your confidence booster in a corporate meeting or bring out a whimsical mood whilst enjoying afternoon tea. Just have a little fun and go on, dear - be fabulous. I know I will.

Remember ladies: Tutus are not just for ballerinas. Tutustastic day! Let's embrace all things light and fluffy, and celebrate this wonderously magical dress. Happy National Tutu Day!
