It's a scandal! A most dreadful tragedy has befallen the world of ballet. Today, the 16th of May, 1998, a dreadful scandal has hit our most prestigious ballet companies - the tutu shortage! The great tutus, the ones that adorn our elegant prima ballerinas, have all vanished, like puff of smoke.
A collective gasp swept across the hallowed halls of Covent Garden as the rumour started. Whispers of missing tutus, the dreaded fabric famine, a nightmare to any ballet-lover! What on earth has become of them? Were they taken by the fairies of the stage? A daring heist by a troupe of mischievous ballerinas with an unquenchable craving for sparkling tulle? Was the whole thing just a very elaborate marketing ploy?
Well darlings, the truth is even more extraordinary than you could have possibly imagined!
The culprits: the tutu thieves! It seems they are a group of adorable kittens who had become quite taken with the tutus in their local shop. It started as innocent playtime - you know how kittens are - a tumble and a pounce! But these tutus were clearly a catnip dream, the tulle was too tempting, the delicate fabric just too irresistibly soft!
But these kitties were not just any kitties. These, darlings, are no ordinary, humble pussy cats - they were the "Purrfect Paws Ballet Company" - a group of highly trained kittens with a passion for dancing. The fluffy felines had dreamt of donning their very own tutu, a fashion faux pas in the feline world, if you will. They believed that wearing a tutu was the ultimate expression of ballet elegance, so when the opportunity arose they couldn't resist!
The cat burglars, a most glamorous set of penguins, looked rather ridiculous as they emerged from their den adorned with sparkling tutu plumage.
Thankfully, after an intense three day investigation with a team of fluffy Sherlockian feline detectives ( a detective agency comprised entirely of kittens who are also excellent ballet dancers, called "The Whiskers & The Pointe Shoes" of course ), all the tutus have been recovered. You can hear the sigh of relief throughout the ballet world as our prima ballerinas now have the gorgeous, full skirts of their dreams! We can't wait to see our star ballerinas in their glamorous, billowing and now very expensive, tutus!
All of us have learned a valuable lesson: even kittens have an elegant side!
