It’s 16 June 1998, and as I sit here in my leopard print silk dressing gown (it’s just so comfy, and lets face it, totally fabulous!), I’m thinking about the ultimate symbol of dance: the tutu.
Now, I know what you're thinking – "Tutus? Aren’t they just those poofy, impractical things that ballerinas wear to make them look like sugar plums?” Oh, my sweet, naive darlings, you haven't even scratched the surface!
Think about it. It’s a garment designed to, among other things, help ballerinas launch themselves into the air with seemingly effortless grace and poise. Yes, they may have frills and sparkles and sometimes even feathers. But are we really talking about a more *useful* fashion item? Maybe not.
So, here I am today, inspired by the fluffy little dream of a garment that is the tutu. The question that bubbles in my soul is… how on earth can we make them work in our everyday lives?
We know a full-blown ballet tutu isn't exactly office appropriate (though I imagine the boss would be utterly flabbergasted by my entry into the boardroom in one!). However, there are some truly genius possibilities. Consider:
- Tutu Skirts. You're looking for something truly *unique* and statement making? Think tiny tutu skirts. Think layered fabrics, feathers, tulle, sequins... The possibilities are *endless*, darlings! Pair them with a simple t-shirt or a glamorous fitted top for the perfect dose of edgy yet chic. Imagine the surprised glances of men everywhere... They'll be wishing they were *en pointe*.
- Tutu Accessories. Maybe full-on tutus are just too much? Don't fret, darlings! We can always go for a more *subtle* approach, like the darling little tutu accessory that *perfectly* enhances a stunning cocktail dress. Or perhaps even an elegant ballet-inspired shrug. We're taking ballet off the stage and right into our own fabulous little worlds!
- Tutu Jewellery. This is a *delightful* opportunity for real creativity. How about some charming little tutu earrings? Tiny sparkling tutus as a necklace? Imagine, it’s a miniature masterpiece around your neck, and you get to *twirl* as much as you like!
And why stop there? How about the most spectacular wedding ever with a bride adorned with a fluffy white tutu and sparkly tiara, like a real life fairy tale? (Just imagine the incredible Instagram pics, darlings!)
And even in this most serious of times, with things getting quite *tumultuous* on the world stage, isn't the beauty of dance (and its delightful tutus) something that can bring a bit of light and whimsy to our daily lives?
Just think how much more fun and glamorous the world would be if we all had just a dash of ballerina in us, and a little bit of that tutu magic. We'd be *flying* high and feeling truly *en pointe* - literally! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to slip into something sparkly. I just know that my leopard print silk dressing gown is ready to embrace the beauty and the magic of tutus!
