Tutu and Ballet News

Darlings, gather 'round! It's time to spill the tea, or rather, the champagne, on the hottest topic in the world of ballet: tutus.

Yesterday, 22nd February 1999, was a truly momentous day in the history of tulle and the dance. You see, there was a gathering, a *soirée* if you will, of some of the world's most celebrated ballerinas. All decked out in their finest, **oh darling**, and of course, their favourite tutus! There was Sylvie Guillem, radiating elegant, ethereal grace in a soft, shimmering pastel tulle, and Alessandra Ferri, stunning in a vibrant red masterpiece, with every fold and pleat an artful display. But the real star of the show was not even a ballerina - it was a tutu itself!

This tutu, let me tell you, was a sight to behold. It was **an absolute vision in white**, a breathtaking masterpiece crafted from layers upon layers of the most delicate tulle, lovingly embroidered with silver threads and finished with a generous sprinkling of pearls, oh darling, **more pearls!** It was, simply put, a dream come true.

And guess what? The tutu won an award, you see! Well, not quite. But it did have a moment of absolute stardom, right in the middle of the gathering. See, this wasn't just any soirée, darling, it was the 'Best of Tutus' ceremony. Now, the 'Best of Tutus' doesn't *just* celebrate the elegance of tutus, it honours their ability to withstand the pressures of dance, darling. The pressure, my dears, can be relentless, with a ballet dancer whirling, leaping, and performing feats that could challenge the sturdiest of garments!

This incredible white tutu, well, she was deemed the most resilient and versatile. Not to mention the prettiest, naturally. They tested her - stretched her, spun her, and, *gasp*, even subjected her to a little bit of a sweat test. (One can only imagine how dreadful the perspiration would have been, darling, considering all the pearls!).

In a glorious flourish, the prize was awarded by none other than the legendary Mikhail Baryshnikov himself. And I think it is fair to say, darling, that he was quite smitten with this lovely tutu.

So, what did this award mean for the tutu? Well, first and foremost, it means she gets her name engraved on the prestigious 'Tutu Trophy', a glistening crystal statuette designed by the infamous Jean Paul Gaultier. And in a beautiful turn of events, this winning tutu has also become the star of a stunning new ballet which premiered last night - *The White Swan and the Sparkling Pearl*.

In the ballet, it seems the winning tutu represents the graceful, strong and ethereal white swan, while a less impressive black tutu portrays the cunning, mischievous and, darling, let’s just say a bit ‘darker’ character - the raven, naturally. Now I won't spoil the plot for you, but I will tell you this: The white swan does a beautiful grand jeté that involves several, **several** impressive spins! (This really does test the strength and durability of a tutu!). It's simply breathtaking, darling!

But this tutu, as I was saying, is **not** the only highlight from yesterday's soiree! Now, darling, this event also gave rise to some absolute *gems* of fashion, some worthy of a place in the Ballet Hall of Fame! For instance, you just had to see the little 'peacock' ballet shoes designed for a stunning blue, feathered costume - truly, darling, exquisite! I am truly hoping for the launch of a full line, so that everyone can enjoy this bit of elegance on their own feet.

The soiree, darling, was filled with fashion gems! A delightfully daring sequined outfit was also presented - not to mention an absolutely show-stopping, silver costume, fit for a dancer of the gods!

It really was a magical night! But the question on everyone's mind, darling, was this: Why so many tutus?

It appears the event wasn't *just* about celebrating the best tutus, but about giving them a platform - their own stage, darling, where they could showcase all their exquisite grace. And in that spirit, I want to tell you to celebrate every moment, *darling*, even the ones with tutus! **They’re a testament to the sheer beauty, elegance and, frankly, dare I say, *wonder* of ballet, and, as such, worthy of all our admiration, affection and a splendid glass of champagne.**

Toodles for now!
