Tutu and Ballet News

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a ballerina in possession of a good pink tutu, must be in want of a matching leotard. This age-old sartorial conundrum has been addressed, finally, this July the first by the House of Couture, Balliera, with a debut of both, so utterly breathtaking it's making dance history. And so, I present to you, a little bit of the story that unfolded in Paris last night...

As the curtain fell on the latest show from Balliera, one can say it left many audience members gasping for air. With the sound of hushed gasps and gasps and gasps, there it was, that thing, that moment... we’d all been waiting for! That moment that sets the dance world on fire, ignites a sense of utter adoration and wonder. This show? Well, it’s been a ballet spectacle! It’s about the dance itself. This ballet by Balliera is an exquisite collection with more focus on the form and shape of a dance that is very powerful yet gentle.

Of course, there’s much more to this new range, so here are some key facts about Balliera’s latest offering:

  • The show's creative director, Valentina Valentinova is an exceptionally beautiful woman of many talents and has been an inspiration for years to young aspiring ballerinas like myself. She has really turned this line into a masterpiece.
  • It features an iconic “new wave” leotard which is designed to work effortlessly with both long and short tutus (it appears Valentinova has decided this is a fashion must for all dancers this year, and rightly so), so you can really have your pick in terms of which length best suits your look, your dance routine, your stage and of course, your height. I simply love the elegance of the lines in this collection, so chic.
  • I know what you're thinking: but the key leotard here is in the nude/pink/black colour combo of the iconic line of this range... it has the iconic design but comes in three must have colour schemes for dancers this summer season – and it’s an absolute showstopper. It looks so effortlessly luxurious in the line up.
  • The tutus: These are some of the most spectacular ever seen - Balliera does this in the way it only does! Think exquisitely crafted layers of tulle, so expertly cut for effortless dance, that you almost wouldn’t believe your own eyes, let alone your own fingers.
  • And you must buy a tutu... as the most exciting development in this new range from Balliera - that can easily be made even more spectacular in any colours - with all those different styles that Valentinova is renowned for, the ballet looks will now feature the best part of any dancer’s look, the tutus... which in these collections have been handcrafted to work with this brand's signature line of the dance looks that we are witnessing here on the stage tonight. It really was so stunning and graceful to witness in a beautifully lit Paris Theatre tonight, it did really take my breath away... but don’t be surprised if it leaves yours in the same state when you finally get your hands on it for yourself. The real question? Does a ballerina really need a full length tutu these days? To answer this, you’d have to come and see the new ballet line! It’s one that you will surely be tempted by if you even slightly love ballet.
  • All the looks: The colours are dreamy – the shades of ballet pink that just seem to take your breath away and bring you right back to the age of innocence and charm of what we do! And what about all the sparkle and shine and the way this show has been designed in a way that has allowed the dances to have free expression - well it’s simply mesmerizing... I couldn’t look away even if I wanted to! You’ll also notice a new and improved feel in terms of “ease of movement”, the lines really allow this range to dance its way into our hearts.
  • My favourites – that you will be adding to your shopping list straight away are these:
    • The classic short, but modern tutu;
    • And the most decadent of all the short tutus - the new 'Rose' which will be released soon;
    • You'll also notice that all these tutus and leotards - which, have the new and exclusive 'B' design - are designed to be as easy to maintain as possible for the stage dancer as for you to look as flawless as they do. So much care has been taken to design all the outfits in this line - so think:
      • easy to wear
      • super comfortable
      • all without losing an ounce of elegance and class.
    • Of course, there's so much more to say about Balliera’s show!
    • A little sneak preview of what we can expect this year: A new leotard in all white, designed for dancers who are not just ballet performers.

Let's just say: “this was a spectacle, indeed”, it truly had the world’s most stylish crowd standing to give Valentinova a standing ovation at the close, and the show was so divine, it has left an even bigger imprint on the industry... but in the ballet world that Balliera so effortlessly reigns in, with a sprinkle of fashion fairy dust - these trends just seem to magically happen! But who really knows the magic and wonder that is Balliera? It truly is a show you need to see for yourself to fully grasp...

I had the opportunity to catch up with Valentinova earlier today to find out a little more about this magical brand and its exciting future...

“The inspiration behind Balliera has always been my obsession with ballet. I love the graceful and fluid movements and I really just wanted to translate that into fashion, but of course, not lose the integrity of the dance. This range is really a collection to celebrate how far ballet has come in terms of its inclusivity, its fashion influence. This collection is for all ballerinas. If I could encapsulate the true feeling that this collection evokes in one phrase it would be ‘luxury that inspires, yet is easily accessible' - this collection feels more inclusive and I think is a testament to the fact that ballet is now more open to new talent... I can’t wait to see it evolve! Valentinova told me... so I think we have to agree with Valentinova that she’s achieved that vision with this magical collection. I’d say the world’s favourite ballet ballerina is well on her way to making Balliera one of the best, most recognisable brands, a true contender. What makes this brand so utterly spectacular is its ability to make women feel and look so effortless. In fact, I have a feeling that this Balliera collection is a brand that is not just set for the ballet world and has every possibility of going even further and breaking new ground.

And as far as my prediction of the summer trends go? Here’s how to get that magical look that Balliera has delivered so spectacularly!

  • Pick yourself a pink tulle tutu and find that stunning nude or black matching leotard that Balliera is renowned for. If you can’t find one that you love at your local store then the online shops will be full of a selection - but my advise to you - go Balliera first for an iconic tutu that will have the ballet community swooning. It’s really the way to add that instant wow-factor to your dancing!
  • Of course, your look doesn’t have to be complete - go for the simple tutu! If you find a fab short tutu or the long one, in a gorgeous colour then just pick up some classic leotards. It’s so simple and chic but that's the thing about fashion and dance: the less we do, the more we get right. There is so much inspiration in that iconic line and the colours are so delicious that I couldn’t resist... but I couldn’t be more proud to write about it for you... for me... because I truly believe that every girl wants a Balliera ballet outfit and there’s a magical piece in their collections that just resonates with your very soul.
  • Ballet in a pink tulle tutu - in itself – it will take you to another place. As Valentinova has cleverly shown in her line of leotards and tutus - every little girl dreams of becoming a ballerina - you can make that dream come true, whether you’re a ballerina on the stage or a young, aspiring star or simply want that ballet dream, go for Balliera!
  • This has been such a joy to share - so, there you have it. This show - an icon of our times.
