Tutu and Ballet News

Oh darling, isn't it divine! The ballet world is abuzz with excitement, and it's all about the tutu. That's right, the iconic garment that has adorned the stages of the world's most prestigious opera houses is getting a fresh makeover, and let's just say, it's going to be sensational.

It's all happening this year, with a groundbreaking new production debuting at the Royal Opera House on the 13th of June. "The Swan's Embrace", this new ballet will feature, for the very first time in history, a **entirely pink ballet tutu**. Now I know what you're thinking: pink? Isn't that a bit, well, childish? Well, darling, this is far from your average children's ballet. This is an explosive new take on classical choreography, set to an ethereal score with an enchanting score by one of today's leading young composers. This new composition will explore the beauty and power of a story written from a woman’s point of view with all its complexities, intricacies, and depths, as a single white swan (whose white tutu becomes pink in a mesmerizing transformation) embarks on a life-changing journey.

The costume designer, the wonderfully talented and artistic Mrs. Alexandra Bellini, a graduate of the prestigious Parsons School of Design, explained her thinking on choosing the striking and unusual pink tulle for the tutu in this interview "Think about what pink represents: love, innocence, sweetness, grace, fragility. All these qualities are not often associated with powerful stories about femininity, or how a female lead battles for her own place in a tough world. But to me, all these things are so crucial to being a strong female, especially on stage!" Mrs Bellini, whose previous design for last year's critically-acclaimed “The Ballerina's Dreams” have gained huge admiration across the globe, has not only created an entirely pink tutu, but the **design also incorporates shimmering layers of luxurious silk and crystal embellishments, all in shades of pale pink, fuchsia and a breathtaking cherry blossom hue.** This unique color scheme makes the tutu look dazzling under stage lights! The bodice is finished off with the sweetest pearl detailing.

While we all swoon over Mrs Bellini's design for the main dancer's tutu, what makes the costumes so amazing in “The Swan’s Embrace”, is how Mrs. Bellini uses colour and form to differentiate between other ballet characters who are all beautifully and perfectly dressed in similar but distinctive costumes. The swan’s graceful movements on the stage, enhanced by her stunning tutu, are sure to bring the audience into a state of awe, with every dance move that is enhanced by the tutu and made extra special by the captivating pinkness of the dance's centerpiece!

The debut of this incredible pink tutu has caused a whirlwind of attention in the ballet world. This extraordinary move towards a revolutionary use of pink has already generated excitement, and all eyes are fixed on the premiere. Will this ballet launch the start of a new age for the humble, elegant, and graceful ballet tutu? We all want to see, with our own eyes, just how **pink will redefine ballet’s iconic dress!**
