Pink Tutu Blog: NYC #11 - A Dance Through the City of Dreams

Hello, darlings! Emma here, ready to take you on another whirlwind adventure through the dazzling, glamorous streets of New York City! This week, it's all about celebrating the joy of dance and, of course, embracing our love for everything pink. Buckle up, because it's time to get your tutu ready for a proper knees-up in the Big Apple!

Monday 21st August 1995: It was a scorching summer day in New York City, and even the pavement was shimmering like a hot, pink cupcake frosting. Thankfully, my little pink tutu, paired with a crisp white shirt and some fabulously impractical platform sandals, was keeping me cool and stylish, as I strutted through Central Park like a true New York City ballerina.

Now, I know what you're thinking – a tutu in Central Park? Yes! Who said we can't embrace our love for twirling even on the streets? I find it's the perfect way to add a touch of magic to any setting, a burst of colour and cheer. You wouldn't believe the looks and smiles I got from the other New Yorkers – even the pigeons seemed to tap their tiny toes in approval!

This week in New York has been all about dancing, and my heart is overflowing with glee. I've been fortunate to snag tickets for a mesmerizing performance at the Metropolitan Opera, a dazzling display of ballet artistry. Oh, it was divine! I'd been waiting with bated breath for this show – The Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky. My dream? To one day waltz onto that very same stage myself, dressed in a lavish, billowing pink tutu. Now, wouldn't that be a story for the books?

But enough about dreams. This city is bursting with energy and opportunities, and I'm here to make the most of them. I spent the day wandering through the iconic Macy's department store, feeling a giddy excitement that only a true shopaholic like myself could understand.

And wouldn't you know it, I found the most delightful thing! A vintage pink silk scarf, soft and flowing like the most graceful ballerina. It practically begged to be worn with a chic white ensemble and my beloved tutu. Let's be honest, every woman needs a bit of extra whimsy in her wardrobe!

As the evening approached, I decided to experience a side of New York I haven't explored yet – Broadway! You wouldn't believe the energy in the air – it's almost as electric as the flickering lights of the city itself. This was a completely different experience to the hushed intimacy of the opera house. It was full of vibrancy and passion. And while the tutu might not have been as fitting for this setting (a touch too 'fairytale' for Broadway's brash energy!), I enjoyed watching the talent and drama unfold. The sheer talent on stage!

One thing is for sure – whether it's in a quiet theatre or on the streets, New York City thrives on performance and creativity. It's a city where the boldest of dreams can take flight! This has been a whirlwind of a week, and it wouldn't be a true Pink Tutu blog post without mentioning the fabulous food I've been enjoying.

Imagine my delight when I stumbled across a charming little tea room – all floral wallpaper and delicate porcelain teacups. We're talking finger sandwiches, delectable cakes, and the kind of tea that would make Queen Victoria herself raise an eyebrow (and a perfectly manicured finger) in approval! Now, that's my kind of afternoon treat!

Of course, no trip to New York would be complete without a taste of its iconic street food – steaming hot dogs from vendors overflowing with mustard, pizza slices bigger than my head, and those gloriously messy bagels I can never resist! The beauty of New York? There's a flavor for every palate.

This weekend I took the iconic subway system down to Brooklyn. A truly fab experience for any seasoned Londoner like myself. You know, those journeys that transport you through tunnels and bring you up to view from above. A great view from below and above as they say. Now I have a list of cool Brooklyn places to try out in my notebook! It was a sensory overload, the hustle and bustle, the people-watching – truly a city alive!

The weekend also saw me finally venture into the Met! Such a beautiful place. They’ve a whole gallery on fashion too! I am thinking I might make this my new spot in New York, maybe rent a little pink tutu storage space for all my outfits? Wouldn't that be the life?

But wait, there's more! Now for some personal news, lovely readers! My upcoming schedule is jam-packed, and you won't believe the excitement bubbling in my ballet heart. In just a few weeks, I have a chance to showcase my skills at the very prestigious New York International Ballet Festival. Fingers crossed that my audition is as enchanting as my dreams. It's truly an honour to be even considered for this incredible event!

Remember, the world is our stage, darling. Wherever life takes us, never lose the spark in your eye, the skip in your step, or the urge to wear a fabulous pink tutu! We all deserve a little bit of sparkle and twirling joy in our days!

Until next week, darling readers! Keep on dancing and make your own fairy tales! And remember, don't be afraid to embrace a little pink in your life! It will only enhance the beauty you radiate.

Stay pink and positive,

Emma.
