Pink Tutu Blog: New York City Edition #22 - Monday, November 6th, 1995

Hello my darling readers,

Welcome back to another Monday from your favourite tutu-clad traveller! This week, I've been twirling through the magical streets of New York City, and let me tell you, it's been absolutely enchanting. From the vibrant colours of Central Park to the electrifying energy of Broadway, I'm completely besotted with this city that never sleeps.

As always, I'm rocking my trusty pink tutu. It's my little bit of Derbyshire charm, sprinkled amongst the concrete jungle. You know me, I can't resist a touch of whimsy! It seems even New Yorkers are taking to my pink-hued fashion philosophy, with a few brave souls even venturing into the realm of tutu-wear! Oh, to see the world awash in pink tutus… my heart sings!

Now, where to begin with this week's adventures? As ever, it's all about the ballet. Let me start with my biggest highlight: last night, I witnessed a breathtaking performance of "Giselle" at the New York City Ballet. You all know my love for this ballet, the tragic love story, the ethereal dance, the hauntingly beautiful music, and the gorgeous tutus – what more could I possibly desire? It left me completely spellbound!

I even met a wonderful ballet dancer, Emily, who graciously took me backstage and introduced me to some of the company members. They were all incredibly welcoming and inspiring. It made me realise once again the amazing power of dance – it truly transcends language and culture, connecting us all with its beauty and grace.

Speaking of connection, the New York subway has become my best friend in the city! I love exploring the various routes, dodging crowds, and eavesdropping on conversations – sometimes a real treat. This morning, a lady on the train told me her dream was to become a fashion designer and start her own tutu boutique. Imagine! Perhaps we can open a shop together, the "Pink Tutu Boutique," in Derbyshire! It's not such a far-fetched dream after all!

My explorations have led me to the wonderful shops on Fifth Avenue! It was an absolute dream to browse through all the stunning fashion, with a focus on finding the most fabulous outfits to accompany my ever-so-perfect pink tutus. I can’t resist the charm of a delicate vintage lace gown paired with my tulle masterpiece – it’s just too delightful.

However, the best thing about New York? The endless supply of fabulous performances, plays, concerts, and of course, more ballet! Today, I'm off to see "The Lion King" at the Minskoff Theatre – a real Broadway classic. Can't wait to be swept away by the vibrant costumes and captivating music. Perhaps even some unexpected twirling opportunities on my way home!

For tonight's entertainment, I’m off to see “Chicago” - I hear it's one of those glamorous musicals full of sequins, feathers, and just a touch of razzle dazzle. Perfect for my inner Broadway diva.

It's not all about performances, you know! One of my favourite pastimes in New York is simply wandering through Central Park. It’s a lush oasis amidst the city's vibrant energy. This weekend, I found a charming picnic spot overlooking the Bethesda Terrace fountain. It's magical watching the people around me; a sea of colours and styles. And then there’s me, in my beautiful pink tutu! Sometimes I think people just want to stare at me all day - it’s my favourite kind of attention.

This brings me to the topic that's so close to my heart: spreading the love of the tutu! Remember, my darlings, we all have the power to be a little bit more magical in our everyday lives. Why not add a splash of pink to your outfit? A tulle bow, a satin ribbon, even a touch of glitter on your cheeks – embrace the whimsical spirit of the tutu! Who knows? Maybe you'll inspire others to embrace their own inner tutu girl, and make the world a more colourful place.

I can't wait to share more of my New York adventures next week. Remember to check back on Monday!

Until then, twirl with love,

Emma
