Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post Number 27 - December 11th 1995 - A Ballerina's New York Dream!

Good morning darlings, and welcome to my little corner of the internet! It's Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-wearing, ballerina-by-day, fashionista-by-night, and always-optimistic writer! I'm thrilled to be sharing my adventures with you from the vibrant city that never sleeps, the fabulous New York City!

This week, as you all know, I'm continuing my exploration of this magnificent metropolis, and I must say, it's like a whirlwind of dreams! My journey's fuelled by the joy of performance – dancing my heart out in beautiful theatres, dazzling audiences with pirouettes and leaps! This week, I twirled my way to New York, ready to embrace the city with all my heart. My pink tutu suitcase is full of glitter and grace, and I'm determined to infuse the Big Apple with a dash of that magical tutu-infused charm!

Before we delve into the highlights of my New York week, let's catch up on some recent tutu-tastic events from my little life: Last month, I had the pleasure of performing at a fundraiser gala for the Derbyshire Youth Ballet. I absolutely love using my passion for dance to support such a wonderful cause – sharing the magic of ballet with future generations is a gift I cherish. The children were so excited, and their tiny pink tutus looked just divine, don't you think?

Speaking of tutus, my dear readers, have I told you about the fabulous tutu boutique I discovered in London last week? It was filled with a veritable rainbow of colours, textures, and styles - the perfect place to add some twirl to any outfit! You simply MUST add a tutu to your wardrobe this season – they are not only fabulously chic but incredibly comfy, too! Imagine waltzing through life with the lighthearted spirit of a tutu! Just add a little pink and prepare for all the smiles and compliments coming your way!

But enough about my own twirling exploits, let's move on to my whirlwind New York adventures, shall we? The air in New York is filled with a heady mix of excitement, energy, and possibility, making it hard to believe this city hasn't always been buzzing with its iconic energy. But this city has a history just like us, one that echoes through the cobbled streets, whispers through the park benches, and reverberates through its art museums and historical buildings.

A Tutu-ful Journey Begins:

I touched down at JFK airport this week in a delightful state of excited anticipation. Awaiting me, I imagine, is an adventure filled with Broadway shows, shopping expeditions, and the most decadent latte art you can find. I've already got my favourite pink ballet flats and a gorgeous cherry-pink cardigan tucked into my suitcase, ready to navigate the iconic New York metro system and discover the city's most magical corners.

My first journey in New York was the magical experience of riding the metro, an exciting, fast-paced, subterranean adventure. I felt like a character in a ballet about the city's pulsing heart. And who needs to spend on a taxi, when you can experience the rhythm of the city through the windows of the subway! It’s always exciting, but with all those wonderful diverse characters rushing past, it was particularly stimulating.

Broadway and Ballet: My New York Dream

New York is truly a haven for the arts, but today's itinerary was pure magic: a glorious matinee at the New York City Ballet! It was simply a revelation to experience the grandeur of Lincoln Center – it is simply breathtaking! My tutu heart was skipping a beat as I made my way to the plush velvet seats in the theatre. The sheer elegance of the venue alone was a thrill – it felt like stepping into a bygone era of opulence and refinement. And then, the magic unfolded onstage!

Watching the ballet was an experience like no other. It was as though the very fabric of the city – its raw energy, its soaring aspirations, its quiet moments of contemplation - all swirled together on the stage. The ballerinas' grace and fluidity were awe-inspiring – I was transfixed. Each movement was a story unto itself, conveying emotions both joyous and heartbreaking, passionate and peaceful, with just a hint of magical mystery. Oh, to have the chance to dance with those graceful and elegant performers on that grand stage! My spirit soars, just watching their artistry. And all within a tutu's throw!

Tutu-ful Treats

After the ballet, a truly delightful New York treat – I discovered the cutest pink café in the Village, just across the street from the delightful New York City Ballet – they even have their own collection of tutus! And for a moment, I even thought I spotted an American version of my own dear Tutu-licious cake on the menu – alas it turned out to be a Strawberry Dream Cake, but let's face it, we all know what dreams are made of!

And finally, the icing on my New York cake – a delicious gourmet cupcake at a shop adorned with pastel pinks, turquoise blues, and a sprinkle of whimsical charm! I almost didn't want to spoil its sugary perfection, but the cupcake's heavenly vanilla scent and its smooth, creamy frosting were simply too enticing. This truly was a tutu-tastic day, if I may say so myself!

Shopping Spree: Pink in the City That Never Sleeps

The shopping in New York City is an adventure unto itself, and my pink tutu is well-equipped for this kind of expedition, trust me. It seems impossible that just walking a few blocks can bring so many dazzling delights. I went on a quest for the perfect new ballet shoes, for dancing my way through these wonderful streets. I discovered a quirky vintage boutique tucked away on a side street, and you'd never believe the amazing finds! It had everything a vintage-loving ballerina could dream of! I'm even considering making a special Tutu Boutique corner in my London apartment for some of my vintage treasures. I couldn't resist picking up a few adorable dresses - I have a penchant for polka dots and florals. A new ballet dress was the highlight!

I also have a real thing about shoes. My dear friend Penelope calls me "Cinderella" (which, let's be honest, is a fantastic association, especially when it comes to fairy tale tutus!) and so a shopping expedition in a city as glamorous as New York would not be complete without a trip to the shoe heaven. Oh, what a treat!

But it wasn't all tutus and cupcakes; a visit to a charming bookstore, brimming with classic novels and whimsical paperbacks, allowed me to add some enchanting tales to my collection. A paperback copy of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice (I know you all love Austen!) and a beautifully illustrated volume on the history of ballet – all tucked neatly into my pink tutu tote bag!

An Evening in New York

My day finished with the perfect New York experience: A magical Broadway show. The Theatre district is another New York world. A magical world, if you will. So full of vibrant and glamorous personalities - and oh, the excitement of watching the performers on those magnificent stages, singing and dancing and acting their little hearts out! And all, in front of that wonderful audience who can barely contain their glee. The energy, the excitement - it's simply infectious!

But back to that Broadway show! The seats were amazing. The music was heavenly and the performers absolutely enchanting. And it really made my day – you just have to love the joy and warmth of a good theatre experience. They really are a tonic to the soul, don’t you think?

The streets are truly alive, buzzing with a vibrant energy, the sound of music echoing from street performers and jazz bars. You really feel the spirit of the city and the creativity that pulses through its veins! I'm in a state of complete and utter exhilaration and wonder – just waiting to be filled with a day of glorious, twirling explorations! I’ll tell you all about it next week, darlings!

Until then, be sure to follow me on social media! Use the hashtag #PinkTutuBlogNYC!
