Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #105 - Tutu-ing Around the Big Apple!
Hello darlings! It's Monday, which means it's time for another dose of Pink Tutu Blog NYC!
This week, I'm bringing you straight from the bustling streets of the Big Apple, where the excitement never seems to stop. New York City has always held a special place in my heart, a whirlwind of dreams and possibilities, just like a perfect pirouette.
And, as always, I'm channeling my inner ballerina wherever I go – this week in a delightfully whimsical pink tutu, of course!
As a little reminder for the newcomers, my name is Emma, and I'm a ballet-obsessed twenty-something from Derbyshire, England, with a passion for tutus, shopping, and the magical world of Broadway. You can catch me performing at different theatres around the world, my ticket to travel, funded by the very art form that fuels my soul!
And this week, I'm sharing my latest adventure in the city that never sleeps – a week brimming with tutu-tiful discoveries, inspiring performances, and of course, my latest pink tutu picks.
A Week in New York City, Tutu-fied:
Let's rewind to Monday – the day my NYC adventures began! It's a bright and sunny day as I step off the metro, my pink tutu, a cheerful explosion of colour against the city's grey concrete jungle, causing a few smiles along the way. After all, a pink tutu always adds a touch of magic!
The first thing on my agenda is the Metropolitan Museum of Art, always a captivating escape. Lost in the captivating paintings, I am inspired by the artistry, and let's be honest, I am always up for a bit of inspiration for my tutu wardrobe! I am determined to create the perfect ballet-themed tutu for the Metropolitan Museum. My mind is buzzing, it will have layers and layers of tulle in various shades of pink with gold embroidery, sparkling jewels, a flowing cape, oh yes, it is going to be glorious.
The Tuesday is all about my ballet fix, at the famed American Ballet Theatre studios, with their impressive training schedule for dancers of all levels. I take a drop-in class with the most energetic instructor. While she isn’t as impressed with my tutu as I am, she certainly takes notice, so that's always a win!
But Wednesday, a real treat! It’s opening night for a brand-new musical, 'The Enchanted Waltz' at the Gershwin Theatre. You can imagine my delight! The plot, a captivating love story woven with elements of ballet and magic, has me utterly spellbound.
I also found a gorgeous pink tulle wrap, perfect for adding a little ballet flair to my everyday outfits. My London shopping trip yielded a perfect little velvet jacket for a perfect look with the new wrap. Oh yes, and it came in pink. You can tell, I really can’t help myself when I am around anything pink, it is like my heart beats a little faster.
Now, for Thursday – it’s time to take a stroll down the famous 5th Avenue! I've heard so many fabulous things about it, and I’m not disappointed! The shop windows, each more glittering than the last, showcasing the latest haute couture. I simply can’t resist browsing, and, of course, the ballet section is the first one I visit in Saks, because you just never know what magical tulle-inspired creations you might stumble upon.
But the highlight of my day was catching a ballet street performance, by an incredibly talented group of young dancers, on the street outside Bryant Park. It was beautiful to watch the expressions on the faces of the passing by crowd, as the young dancers poured out their artistry on a simple piece of pavement.
Now, Friday is the time for a cultural adventure at the iconic MoMA (Museum of Modern Art). You wouldn’t believe the sheer artistry displayed, sculptures, paintings and photography. A truly inspiring afternoon, leaving me yearning to create a ballet-inspired piece.
After the museum, it is a Friday night and that calls for some live music, in my very own pink tutu. The “The Music Room” bar is my pick. A hidden gem on a little side street, with its exposed brick and eclectic furniture, this place is pure charm. They had the perfect upbeat mix, just what I needed for some Friday night fun!
Saturday, is reserved for some Broadway* magic! I had tickets for "The Phantom of the Opera," and what an incredible spectacle! The dramatic storyline, coupled with the awe-inspiring music and incredible performance left me breathless. If that's not a perfect way to end your week, I don't know what is.
And finally, Sunday, I'm taking it easy – strolling through Central Park, soaking up the crisp air and enjoying a quiet moment with a book, well until I can no longer contain myself and have to break into a little impromptu ballet dance amongst the daffodils and trees.
There's nothing quite like being in New York, surrounded by such an incredible creative energy, so alive with artistry and imagination!
