Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #117 - Dancing in the Big Apple 🍎

Hello my darlings! 🩰 It’s Monday, which means it’s time for another Pink Tutu Blog NYC update! This week, I’m buzzing from a whirlwind weekend in the Big Apple. 🗽 Let me tell you, it’s been a fabulous time!

First off, let’s chat about this iconic outfit: My fabulous new pink tutu! You’ll never guess where I snagged it… from a gorgeous little vintage boutique on Bleecker Street. I mean, it was literally made for a ballerina like me! 🎀 It's the kind of tutu that twirls like a dream and catches the light like a shimmering cloud. You can't even imagine how amazing I felt waltzing through Central Park, soaking in the autumnal sunshine with the city as my backdrop! 🍂

And what did I get up to this weekend, you ask? Well, let's just say, it was pure pink tutu perfection!

Saturday: A Ballet Bonanza!

First, I dashed off to the Metropolitan Opera House for a dreamy performance of Swan Lake. It was breathtaking. 🦢✨ The graceful movements, the exquisite costumes, the haunting music – it truly transported me! Seeing a performance by the New York City Ballet just made me realise that there's no feeling quite like dancing, and the passion of the dancers was truly infectious. I could feel my own toes tapping and my tutu practically vibrating with excitement.

After the performance, my lovely flatmate, Amelia (who’s absolutely mad for Broadway!), treated me to the most incredible dinner at a cosy little French bistro. They do a fabulous steak frites - and it all went down perfectly with a bottle of rosé.🍷💖 You know how much I adore food that tastes like it’s made with love, and this certainly hit the spot.

Sunday: A Shopping Spree!

The next morning, I felt absolutely ready for some serious retail therapy. There’s just something about walking around New York City that makes me want to try on every single outfit in every single shop window. So naturally, we headed down to the Soho district, with its charming boutiques and fabulous independent designers.

I finally tracked down that vintage scarf I’ve been searching for - a beautifully patterned silk number in the most divine shade of lavender! I think I might wear it with my tutu tonight for a romantic stroll through Times Square. 🌆

*And of course, no trip to New York is complete without a little wander around the fabulous Macy’s. * Let’s be honest, even the staunchest minimalist could lose their head in there. I'm just a sucker for everything with sequins and tulle, so I picked up a handful of stunning accessories that perfectly compliment my love for pink and sparkles. 💎

Monday: Back to the Barre!

After all the dancing, shopping, and exploring, it was time for a bit of a routine, which meant a morning at the barre. My current ballet class, The Pointe, is absolutely fantastic.

If you're in the city and fancy brushing up on your pirouettes (or having a go for the first time, why not?!), then I would wholeheartedly recommend them. There’s this lovely instructor named Clara – she has such an infectious energy that the class is simply delightful, you can’t help but get swept up in it.

Dreaming of the Stage

Tonight, I’m performing at a beautiful theatre in Brooklyn. This year, my aim is to try as many different venues and styles as possible, and it's just one of many amazing opportunities I'm taking advantage of. I've always said that life is for the living - and definitely for dancing! ✨

Pink Tutu Thoughts…

Oh, and before I forget - I know I always rave about tutus, but they really are such a joyful and truly liberating garment. Imagine feeling like a graceful swan, floating on air with each step, with a swathe of gorgeous pink material surrounding you. 🦢 💗

And as my motto says: "Wear your tutu with confidence, dear reader - the world needs more pink! * 💖 * "

My Pink Tutu Travel Tips…

Here are some of my favorite New York City essentials for your own pink tutu travels! 💖

  • Metro Travel: New York’s underground metro system is your friend. A word of caution – peak hours can be crazy busy! If you’re heading into the city in the mornings, try and leave yourself an extra 20 minutes to avoid the rush! (P.S - wear flat shoes!) 👠

  • Don’t Be Afraid to Ask! New Yorkers have a reputation (which I'll admit is somewhat deserved!) but most are incredibly helpful, especially if you’re new in town.

  • Always Wear a Pink Tutu!: Ok, I’m kidding… but wearing a colourful, eye-catching outfit like a bright pink tutu will make you stand out and bring a smile to those around you. 😉

  • Embrace the City’s Rhythm! New York City is a city that truly never sleeps, and its energy is simply electrifying.
