Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday, 16th April, 2001 (Post #306)

Oh darling, hello! This week, my dearest pink tutu-loving followers, I've whisked myself to the fabulous city that never sleeps! Yes, my darling friends, Emma is in New York City! It's like a dream come true, all the glitz, glam and that iconic Manhattan skyline - I feel like a little pink tutu-clad princess amongst the skyscrapers.

My travels, as always, are funded by the joy of dance. This weekend, I graced a stage in Boston, pirouetting through a performance of Swan Lake that was absolutely enchanting. It’s so wonderful to spread the magic of ballet across the world and to make the world a pinker and more sparkly place, one tutu at a time! 🩰

Arriving in the Big Apple

Landing in New York, I felt a rush of excitement, my heart skipping a beat just like a perfectly executed grand jeté! I had booked myself a charming little hotel in Greenwich Village - it's so much more personal than those vast impersonal towers. The atmosphere here is incredible; it feels like every corner is buzzing with creativity. Of course, the first thing I did was hop onto the Metro - just call me Miss Underground! I swear, darling, every ride is an adventure! You never know who you’ll bump into! This morning, I had a lovely conversation with an elderly gentleman who's written a play about a dancing dog in a pink tutu. How fabulous! He actually gave me a front-row ticket for his premiere next month - so naturally, I shall be in attendance with a dazzling pink outfit to match!

A Day of Delightful Delights

My first day in New York City has been a kaleidoscope of delightful discoveries. I started by taking a brisk walk down the iconic Fifth Avenue, with its stunning shopfronts adorned with windows displaying collections fit for royalty! The sheer volume of shoes, handbags and, of course, gorgeous sparkly dresses and shoes - heaven on earth! And did I mention I finally got to try on a pair of the most divine pink Manolo Blahniks? They’re destined to grace my feet at the opening of that play next month! I almost cried with joy, they were just SO me, darlings! I spent the rest of the afternoon in a wonderful museum showcasing the history of fashion. They even had a whole room devoted to tutus from all eras - oh my goodness! Imagine my delight! I even saw some of the most intricate, breathtaking creations from the Ballet Russe era! The exquisite detail and artistry of each feather and pearl simply stole my breath away.

Food, Glorious Food!

I have to confess, darlings, my New York adventure began with the ultimate treat – an authentic, juicy, and rather large New York slice! I indulged in the tastiest cheese and pepperoni slice from this cute little Italian deli near my hotel. My heavens! And speaking of food, tonight, I plan on dining at a fantastic restaurant, where I’m assured I can order pink pasta. That’s how they do things in New York!

Seeing Stars

As it is Tuesday evening, a lovely young man (who told me that I'd reminded him of his great aunt Mildred - how sweet, he's like a modern-day Gentlemen Prefer Blondes kind of fellow!), showed me all the amazing Broadway posters. He said he just adored ballet (who wouldn't?!) and was convinced I'd adore the new production of Chicago. My sweet friend is so sweet, but let’s be honest, it's a little...too risqué for a darling little pink tutu enthusiast! However, this is New York, and they say you need to step out of your comfort zone. Tonight, I shall make the most of my time in the city! I am so intrigued, darling! Who knows what dramatic adventures await?

Tonight’s Tutu

My choice of outfit tonight is rather… theatrical, let's just say. It’s a beautiful full pink tulle skirt (slightly extra-long, if I may be so bold!) paired with a tiny lace-trimmed black camisole. This will allow me to enjoy the glamour of Broadway, feel like the real queen of the party while, at the same time, maintaining a demure elegance for a night of culture! (Because the girls just wanna have fun, but always in good taste, don’t you think?). I'll pair the ensemble with my favourite tiny little diamanté ballet flats that match my new pink manicure! This outfit screams New York darling!

An Important Message!

Of course, the number one thing I want to share is the importance of following your heart. Do not let anyone tell you what to wear or how to be! My heart belongs to my beautiful tutus, and they bring me so much joy. Let the pink tutu magic sweep you up into a whirlwind of delight! Wear what you love and celebrate life’s simple, beautiful, tutu-filled pleasures! I would love to hear all your tips for pink tutu adventures - leave me a message here, darling!

Until next week, I'm off to enjoy the pink and fabulous lights of New York! Stay pink!

P.S. Remember my dear friends, tutus make every moment a little bit brighter, whether you're walking down Broadway or just taking the tube home after a long day!
