Pink Tutu Blog: New York City Edition - Post #331

Monday, 8th October, 2001

Good morning, darlings! It’s Monday and you know what that means: a fresh new post from your favourite pink-tutu-clad travel blogger, straight from the heart of the Big Apple! I'm currently perched on a plush velvet seat in the legendary Radio City Music Hall, about to be whisked away to a magical world of dance and music. But before I get swept away, let's have a little chat about my whirlwind weekend!

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for New York City. The energy here is just electric, you can practically feel it buzzing around you like the neon lights on Times Square! It's the kind of city that never sleeps, and neither do I when I’m here - there's always something going on!

This past weekend, my days were a glorious kaleidoscope of ballet, shopping, and exploring hidden gems, all punctuated by the occasional cuppa from a cute little café. It’s what dreams are made of!

A Tutu-tastic Saturday at the City Center

Saturday was a day for dancing! I began my morning at the gorgeous New York City Center. I'm not even going to lie, I took a good five minutes to take in the beauty of the architecture and the breathtaking interiors before heading into the studio. There’s just something about the old world grandeur of these classic theatres - a real touch of elegance!

My Saturday ballet class was everything I hoped for and more. We covered some pretty tricky combinations and stretches - I'm certainly feeling it today, but that just means it was good! I swear, there's something magical about the feeling of freedom and elegance you get from being able to move gracefully and effortlessly, it's like you can really feel the power within. The New York dancers are just amazing; so expressive, with an energy and passion that's utterly infectious!

Afterwards, it was off to a little tea room down the road called 'Alice’s Tea Cup'. It's a bit of a haven for all things pink and dainty, complete with delicate china cups and a heavenly afternoon tea! I almost felt like I was in a fairy tale. You simply can't leave New York without having at least one delightful tea break in a beautiful spot, so do make it a priority if you're ever in the city!

Sunday: Shopping and Ballet Delights!

Sunday began with a bit of a wardrobe overhaul - yes, I just had to find a new tutu! It's a very important aspect of any ballerina's life, let’s face it. So naturally, I ended up in a little boutique nestled in a cute little street called Bleecker Street, where I found the most wonderful fluffy pink tutu. Think whimsical, princess-like - the kind that makes you feel like you could twirl your worries away!

This delightful discovery led to a fun-filled afternoon browsing the vintage clothing shops in Soho. My motto is "pink, sparkles, and fabulousness" when it comes to shopping - so needless to say, I found plenty to inspire me. The clothes here are so full of character and personality. You just know the stories they hold, and I can't help but feel a little bit of a thrill every time I try on a vintage gem!

That evening, I found myself back at the beautiful City Center for an absolutely unforgettable performance of ‘Giselle’. I was captivated! From the ethereal movements to the powerful emotions the dancers brought to the stage, the performance was utterly magical. And the costumes were absolutely breathtaking - a cascade of soft, pastel colours. And that final, heart-wrenching scene… Just gorgeous. I even teared up a bit. It’s all those raw emotions. I love it!

Onwards and Upwards!

Well, darling readers, this brings me to Monday and this dazzling performance at Radio City Music Hall! This show is one of those classic New York staples, and I'm truly excited to see what magic unfolds tonight. It’s not every day you get to watch some of the most incredible talent in the world perform.

Of course, the show wouldn’t be complete without my signature pink tutu - and tonight, it's even more special! I’ve adorned it with a handful of shiny sequined snowflakes, inspired by the iconic Rockettes, and a smattering of glittery gems to add some extra sparkle! You know I love a bit of sparkle. And who knows? Perhaps my pink tutu will catch the eye of one of the Rockettes, and then we can start a Tutu-tastic trend! It's all about the little moments of joy, and encouraging everyone to embrace their inner ballerina! And of course, I'm going to be posting some photos on our website – www.pink-tutu.com - later tonight, so you can see just how spectacular my pink tutu is!

Until then, my darlings, keep dancing, keep dreaming, and keep twirling!

Your pink-tutu-wearing travel buddy,

Emma

P.S. As always, my travels are funded by my performances and I would love to tell you about my most recent show – I danced with the Derbyshire Dance Academy to a packed audience at the Buxton Opera House! They even wrote about my tutu! You can find an article about it online if you Google: "Pink tutu Derby dancer shines at Buxton Opera House"! It makes me proud to show that ballet can really be for everyone.

P.P.S Oh, and if you're in the mood for a bit of fashion inspiration, don’t forget to browse through the 'Pink Tutu Style' section on our website - I’m constantly adding new outfit ideas, inspired by the wonderful sights of New York City and of course, those fabulous ballerina outfits!
