Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #440 - Dancing in the Big Apple 🍎 🩰

Hello, my lovely darlings! It’s Monday morning and that means it's time for another installment of the Pink Tutu Blog NYC. This week has been a whirlwind of sequins, shopping, and subway journeys, so grab a cuppa, settle in, and let's delve into the wonderful world of Emma in the city that never sleeps.

Now, I know you're all wondering what I've been up to in this magnificent metropolis. Well, let me tell you, this week has been nothing short of fabulous! My ballet performances have been going swimmingly, and thanks to the generous support of my loyal patrons, I've been able to indulge in a spot of much-needed retail therapy and, of course, some incredible cultural adventures.

A Trip to the Theatre 🎭

This week, I took a trip to see "The Lion King" at the Minskoff Theatre. Now, I’ve seen my fair share of musicals over the years, but this show was something truly special. The costumes, the music, the dancing - it was a feast for the senses! Even though the story itself is based on a Disney film I’ve enjoyed numerous times in my younger years, I’ve got to say, there was just something magical about seeing it come to life on stage in such an incredible way. I felt like a little girl again, caught up in the beauty and drama of it all. And, you know me, I just couldn’t resist slipping a little touch of pink into my look for the occasion - a sparkly pink ribbon in my hair, naturally!

The sheer artistry involved in every element of the production was truly awe-inspiring. The makeup and hair on the cast were phenomenal - they took a great deal of effort to create those distinctive animal characters, and they looked simply amazing. Speaking of costumes, they were absolutely stunning - the detail and colour were truly eye-catching. Honestly, the costumes themselves were practically a performance, with every swish and sway, they moved like an intricate dance of their own!

As you can imagine, I was utterly captivated by the dancing. There were leaps, twirls, and graceful movements, each flawlessly executed. The costumes made the performance all the more magical and really brought the characters to life. Honestly, if I weren’t in the middle of my own performing season, I’d be desperately trying to nab a spot in the cast!

Subway Adventures 🚇

Now, I can’t mention my theatre trip without talking about the journey getting there! There's something truly exhilarating about navigating the bustling subway network here in New York City. The sound of the train screeching into the station, the aroma of hot dogs and popcorn from vendors along the platform, the colourful graffiti art adorning the tunnels – it's an adventure every time! Of course, I'm always ready with my trusty pink tutu - it’s a necessity to add a bit of flair to my journeys on the underground!

Honestly, it’s incredible just how easily I'm getting around now, navigating the subway system. I know my fellow tutu wearers in the UK are often a little sceptical about travel on public transport in a tutu - that worry about bumping into people, getting it dirty, having to hold it up in crowded carriages! But you know what, in the end, who cares? This city’s about breaking down barriers, and I just couldn’t stand letting fear of what others think stand in the way of a great journey! My tutu is just an expression of myself, just like wearing a bright dress or funky shoes. I just believe that it’s okay to feel different, to embrace individuality. Plus, a touch of pink definitely makes every subway trip feel a bit more fabulous, right?!

I met some interesting people on the way to the theatre this week, too! There was this lovely older lady who complimented my tutu and told me about a local ballet school she loves, which is somewhere I'm planning on checking out next week. Another guy on the train seemed a bit shy at first, but he complimented my ballet bag - we had a little chat about our love for all things dance, and he even told me about some incredible street dancers he’d seen performing around Central Park. It’s just wonderful meeting fellow arts lovers and hearing about their stories. It definitely makes me feel like I belong here!

Pink Shopping Paradise 🛍️

Speaking of belonging, what truly makes this city a haven for this pink tutu-loving ballerina is the incredible shopping scene. Let me tell you, I have found a real treasure trove of amazing pink clothes and accessories here. Every day seems to offer a new challenge – scouring thrift shops for vintage sequins, hitting the high street for the latest in pastel tulle, even making a beeline for that vintage tutu shop down in Soho that I’d heard whispered about amongst the ballet bloggers – I have not been disappointed yet. It really feels like New York City is encouraging me to embrace every facet of my individuality – and that makes me feel so empowered!

And, of course, what is a shopping trip without some treats to make your wardrobe truly feel complete? So this week, I picked up the most amazing new pair of shoes! These shimmery pink ballet flats, complete with a delicate satin bow, just screamed 'Emma’ and they will be perfect with everything from my vintage denim skirt to a fluffy tutu and silk cami combo for a special evening out! Oh, I’m just in love! I simply must get them professionally photographed for my next blog post - I'm sure my readers will agree with me that they are totally 'tutu' gorgeous!

Dance Studio Discovery 🩰

Of course, no week in the Big Apple is complete without a trip to the dance studio. This week I discovered a new studio that specialises in contemporary and modern dance, and let me tell you, my body and mind were left feeling rejuvenated! The studio has high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city, and enough mirrors to see yourself from every angle! I found the dance class to be a real workout for my body and soul. They really encouraged us to express ourselves through our movements, and it was so exhilarating to be a part of this creative space. Plus, they offered free tea after class, which always hits the spot! I’m definitely returning for another visit next week, as my aching muscles really did enjoy this workout.

I even got to catch a glimpse of some amazing street dancers performing on my way out. Their energy, creativity, and skill were truly impressive. These young talents were really taking advantage of the city’s public spaces to showcase their talent. It made me want to step out into the street myself and just start dancing! You can’t help but be swept away by the rhythm of New York - it's in the heartbeat of this city, on the street corners, in the coffee shops, and in every crevice you turn. This feeling of inspiration, that feeling of just wanting to move, it really comes alive in the streets here!

Inspiration and Pink Perfection 💫

The other day, I popped into this charming vintage shop filled with trinkets and treasures - it’s so easy to find real gems here. There, I came across this little porcelain ballerina doll - oh my, it was pure delight! With a dainty, pink tutu and a soft, porcelain face, it reminded me of my passion for dance and the endless inspiration I find in this magical city.

You know, that's something I've really been thinking about – the endless source of inspiration I’ve found here in New York City. It’s in the energy of the city, in the art, in the people, in the dancing on the streets… This city seems to encourage people to let go of their inhibitions, to embrace individuality and celebrate the art of life. There's a real sense of community here, where everyone feels welcome and celebrated, and I’ve felt embraced since arriving. And that sense of freedom is a true inspiration to this pink tutu-loving ballerina.

Speaking of freedom, there's another little discovery that has brightened my week. You all know how much I love pink tutus, right? Well, I found this incredible little boutique in Brooklyn selling custom-designed pink tutus, and it is like a dream come true! Honestly, I had to resist the urge to buy the whole shop - just because my own flat's storage capacity does have some limitations! Still, I had to indulge, and brought back with me the most fabulous hot pink tutu, adorned with silver sequins and feather boas. Oh, the joy it has brought to my days - a splash of colour and sparkle amidst all the bustling city life.

So there you have it, another week of adventures in New York City! Every week here offers new discoveries, exciting challenges, and incredible opportunities. It's a place that truly makes you feel like you can do anything, be anyone.

And my dear readers, I’m sure by now you can see I have definitely embraced the city’s spirit – I’m definitely feeling myself here.

As always, don't forget to check out www.pink-tutu.com to follow my weekly New York adventures, and feel free to comment on this blog with your thoughts on pink, tutus, ballet, shopping or any of my other adventures.

And as always, never be afraid to embrace your own personal style, no matter what anyone says! Be yourself, wear your tutu, and make sure the world sees your true colours, whatever shade they may be!

Stay stylish and sparkly, my loves,

Emma xo
