Pink Tutu Blog: NYC Adventures, #443!

Monday, 1st December, 2003

Good morning, my lovely Tutuettes! It's Emma here, writing to you from the bustling, vibrant heart of New York City! I've been dancing my way around this magnificent metropolis for a few weeks now, and every single day is a whirlwind of exciting experiences. As I sit here, sipping on a delicious latte (with a sprinkle of pink sugar, of course!), I just have to share all the fabulous adventures I've had since my last blog post.

Firstly, a massive thank you for all the lovely messages and support you sent my way after last week's blog about the fabulous Ballet Russe performance! It truly warmed my heart. Your words of encouragement keep me going and inspire me to keep spreading the Tutu Love. Speaking of inspiration, this week I was lucky enough to see "The Nutcracker" at the Lincoln Center! It was pure magic. From the glistening snow to the swirling snowflakes, it truly transported me to a fairytale land. Of course, my favourite part was the Sugarplum Fairy's beautiful dance, and it sparked so much inspiration for my own Tutu style. Watch this space!

I also popped into a charming little boutique called "Tutu Ć  la Mode" on 5th Avenue. Oh, the tutus! It was a tutu lover's paradise, with every colour and style imaginable. It was hard to leave, but I managed to resist the temptation to buy the whole store! Still, I managed to grab a delicate pink tulle scarf to match my latest creation (more about that soon!)

You see, my Tutuette friends, the real beauty of New York is the energy that buzzes in the air. Everywhere you look, thereā€™s art, fashion, theatre, dance... and endless possibilities! Even the daily commute is an adventure in itself. I canā€™t resist sharing a fun little anecdote with you. Just yesterday, while taking the Metro from Brooklyn to Manhattan, I noticed a young man sitting across from me. His outfit was bold ā€“ leather trousers, bright pink hair, and a bold black t-shirt with "Tutu Tuesdays" written across the front. I smiled, giving him a friendly wave as I exited the carriage, and we both shared a quick laugh as he held up his hand with his pinkie finger sticking up ā€“ the classic tutu salute! I love it when our community grows even stronger ā€“ the Tutu Love is certainly spreading in unexpected places!

Speaking of expanding our Tutu circle, have you entered the Pink Tutu Challenge yet? I encourage everyone to participate! Simply put on your favourite pink tutu, snap a photo of yourself in a fabulous setting, and tag #PinkTutuChallenge on your social media channels! Weā€™ll be selecting the most creative submissions each week, and you could even win a little Pink Tutu Surprise! It's all about embracing the power of pink and spreading Tutu Love wherever you go!

And now, to delve a little deeper into my adventures in fashion, I simply cannot resist sharing a new piece Iā€™ve created. This week Iā€™ve been working on something special for the festive season: A shimmering silver tutu with dazzling sequined embellishments! The details are truly delightful. It has flowing tulle layers that create an ethereal, fairytale look, but with a bit of glam for that added New York sparkle. The delicate, silver sequins catch the light so beautifully and really shimmer when you dance in it.

Picture this: The Christmas lights twinkling around the Rockefeller Center, the scent of hot chestnuts in the air, and a swirling tutu dance in front of the giant Christmas tree. Magical!

The inspiration for this creation comes from the breathtaking grandeur of the festive decorations in New York. You truly cannot compare the scale of the festive displays to anything back home in Derbyshire, that's for sure! I just love all the dazzling lights, twinkling Christmas trees, and festive window displays that brighten up the city! And the smellsā€¦ ah, the smells of the gingerbread cookies and roasting chestnuts just make me want to twirl even more.

On the subject of smells, Iā€™ve discovered this amazing little bakery just down the street called "Pink Peppermint Treats" ā€“ what a perfect name for me! It's overflowing with delicious goodies, but their cupcakes are truly special. I especially adore the raspberry buttercream and the ā€œPink Dreamā€ cupcake. It's topped with pink buttercream icing and sparkly edible glitter ā€“ absolutely dreamy! Itā€™s like dessert heaven and perfectly reflects my passion for all things pink.

Oh, I simply had to share that little treat!

Moving on to the more practical aspects of travelling ā€“ it may surprise you, but New York isn't as intimidating as some might think. The transportation system is incredibly efficient, with the Subway taking me everywhere I need to go. However, thereā€™s a small trick to getting the most out of the system.

My tip of the day for any budding tutu-wearing travellers: Always arrive at your station a few minutes before the rush hour and use a little ā€œballet strategyā€! I use a specific dance step that involves a little ā€œpirouette and dipā€ which enables me to smoothly and gracefully weave between the crowds. Letā€™s call it the "Pink Tutu Commute"! You might see some curious faces, but remember: itā€™s all about showing the world the joy and beauty of dancing! And who knows, perhaps it will inspire someone else to start wearing a tutu, too!

Now, before I sign off for today, I simply have to leave you with a little reflection. As I sit here, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of this incredible city, I'm overwhelmed with the sheer sense of opportunity that surrounds me. There are so many possibilities for a tutu-wearing dancer like me, and I am determined to grasp them with both hands (and my perfectly pink-polished nails, of course!).

As I mentioned before, I believe in the power of pink tutus and how they can brighten someoneā€™s day. So remember, Tutuettes, never be afraid to embrace your individuality, to stand out from the crowd, and to let your inner ballerina shine. Spread Tutu Love and let your pink tutus take you on amazing adventures!

Until next Monday,

Sending you all big Pink Tutu Hugs!

Emma
