Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Monday 2005-03-21 - New York, New York, I Love You!

Helloooo from the Big Apple, darling! It’s Emma here, your pink-tutu-wearing ballerina blogger, bringing you all the fabulous frocks, frolics, and footwork from my trip to New York City! This is post number 511 for my New York blog, which, if you didn't already know, pops up every Monday at www.pink-tutu.com.

Now, let me tell you, darling, this trip has been utterly fantastic! I can't believe I haven't been to this incredible city sooner. New York has been calling my name, practically whispering sweet nothings into my ear while I've been busy twirling my way around the stages of the world, performing my little heart out.

Why am I here? Well, as a dancer who dreams of becoming a renowned ballerina (but who also loves a little retail therapy!), I had to take advantage of a fabulous opportunity to perform in the heart of Manhattan! Of course, it's all a lovely bonus that my gigs often allow me to travel to such fabulous places and live out all my pink-tutu dreams! I fund my travels by using my dancing as a springboard - because you can achieve your wildest dreams, darling, if you put your mind to it, believe me!

New York, I've come for you… for the dazzling stage lights, for the roar of the applause, for the fashion, for the amazing food… oh, and of course for the fabulous tutus that are only to be found here! And don't even get me started on the Broadway shows! They are just...breathtaking!

But first things first, darling, we've got to talk about fashion! Oh, New York City, how I have been looking forward to seeing what fashion magic you hold!

A Fashion Lover's Paradise

Honestly, I feel like I've been let loose in a giant candy store! From the iconic boutiques on Fifth Avenue to the vintage treasures hidden away on the Lower East Side, it's a sartorial feast for the senses! Every window display is an explosion of colour and style, and every shop assistant is a fashion oracle ready to dispense styling advice.

Oh, how I adore this city!

But the most exciting part of the trip (so far!) has to be the amazing opportunity to meet the legendary ballerina, Sylvie, at the American Ballet Theatre! This is an incredible, internationally acclaimed ballet company and, to think, Sylvie herself… the star of the ballet world… actually saw me performing on Saturday!

I was so nervous meeting her, you wouldn't believe it! But Sylvie was incredibly gracious, offering kind words about my performance and my fabulous pink tutu. Imagine! Sylvie actually liked my tutu!

But we've got to talk about tutus, darling. We always need to talk about tutus. Especially when they are in New York! The tutu selection here is unmatched and I had to try on so many before settling on a new masterpiece for my upcoming performance.

I ended up with the most fabulous creation - imagine a swirling cloud of shimmering pink tulle, so perfectly delicate, it looked like it could catch the moonlight! Of course, I bought the most dazzling accessories to complement it, and even managed to grab a stunning, hand-stitched top that perfectly complements the rosy colour of the tulle. Oh, I’m absolutely glowing right now!

Let's Take the Subway, Darling

Speaking of glittering, have I told you about the city’s metro? Honestly, I haven't experienced anything quite like the New York Subway! You step off the street and into a kaleidoscope of colours, sounds, and people. From businessmen in crisp suits to fashionistas sporting the latest trends, and from students rushing to class to artists searching for inspiration, it’s a truly eclectic mix.

And the speed of the metro? Darling, it's exhilarating! You feel like you're on a roller coaster whizzing through tunnels and weaving in and out of stations. You could practically feel the rush of excitement of the city!

And can I just say that, compared to London's Underground, which sometimes smells like, well, something a little unmentionable… this city’s underground is so, so clean!

The best part is, I’ve found that using the metro has opened my eyes to a whole new side of the city, taking me far beyond the usual tourist attractions to neighbourhoods teeming with local life.

I took the 1 Train to visit Central Park on Sunday… and let me tell you, darling, Central Park is an absolute dream! I've had to catch the subway several times every day to travel around the city and have taken a walk in this magnificent green space, discovering hidden gardens and enjoying a delicious picnic under the willow trees. It's the perfect place to unwind and let your mind wander while watching the city's colourful residents stroll by.

Oh, the joy of New York City! It truly has stolen my heart… and it doesn't even take into consideration all of the delicious things I’ve tried on this trip. Just imagine… I even got to experience a real, proper American Diner… and the food was divine! But I won't be sharing the exact address of this divine American Diner because the competition for a table on a Monday evening is, shall we say, somewhat intense. But rest assured, you'll find the address on my Instagram account tomorrow! I always upload to Instagram at precisely 7pm… always

Ballet and Beyond!

Of course, it’s not all shopping and sunshine, darling. New York City has got an incredible arts scene - and ballet is at its very heart. Seeing the famous "Swan Lake" at the New York City Ballet last night was absolutely magical, darling. I was captivated by the costumes, the music, the grace, and the passion of the dancers… it’s an unforgettable performance. Just wonderful. The best ballet I’ve seen for a while, really!

And if I had any doubts before that New York really did steal my heart... well, it's officially gone! * It's one of the best, most creative and culturally dynamic cities on the planet. No wonder this incredible city inspires creativity!

Today, I am off to visit a small theatre on 42nd street and see a really special show - they’ve promised some exciting acrobatic dance performances, and it’s supposed to have the most wonderful lighting! You will, of course, find a photo on Instagram, darling, after the show, accompanied by my thoughts… along with the obligatory #PinkTutuBlogNYC. I always end my day with a dance class! Oh, I think you would adore my teacher - Miss Eleanor. She's a New York treasure! We dance in a beautiful studio hidden away in a historic, red brick building with the most beautiful hardwood floors… she has been teaching for over 30 years!

So darling, remember to follow my blog! Come back next Monday for an even more fabulous edition of #PinkTutuBlogNYC - we’ll talk fashion, dance, delicious restaurants… everything you could possibly imagine, right here, right now… from New York, the city that never sleeps, darling!

And as for you… what would you wear if you could have any pink tutu, right now? I'll answer in next week's post!

Love, Emma
