Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #528 - New York, New York!
Hello lovelies! It's Emma, back from the bright lights of New York City. This past week has been an absolute whirlwind, full of twirling, shopping, and oh, so much pink! If you haven't guessed by now, I've got a bit of a thing for the Big Apple. It's just so full of life and energy, and the streets are practically pulsating with fashion inspiration.
This week, I took my favourite pink tutu on an adventure through the city that never sleeps. My journey began bright and early, the city's energy already palpable as the sun peeked over the skyscrapers. I popped on my trusty pink tutu, a shade of bubblegum that matched the rosy hues of dawn, and hopped onto the metro. Let me tell you, travelling by metro in NYC is a whole different experience from Derbyshire. It's a constant stream of colourful personalities, hurried footsteps, and a million stories rushing by. I had my trusty pink tutu as a shield against the urban jungle – it made the journey feel more like a playful ballet than a packed commute!
A Ballet Bonanza!
My mission for this trip? To experience the unparalleled world of New York ballet. I couldn't have been more excited to visit the iconic Lincoln Center. From the moment I stepped inside, I felt a thrill of anticipation. The atmosphere was electrifying - I could almost feel the dancers' grace and passion pulsing through the air.
It was the New York City Ballet's Summer Gala, a night of pure magic. They were showcasing some stunning contemporary pieces, the choreography was mesmerising. And the costumes? A veritable explosion of colour, but of course, with my signature shade of pink being prominently featured. (Yes, it's true! I spot pink everywhere. I swear, pink is secretly the official colour of NYC.)
Later that week, I spent some time at the world-renowned School of American Ballet. They were holding an open class, and I just had to join in. Imagine: a room full of passionate ballerinas, all eager to learn and improve their craft, and me right there, twirling in my pink tutu amongst them. I felt a real sense of community. Ballet, it truly does unite!
The Shopaholic's Paradise
What would a trip to New York be without a little retail therapy? Now, let me tell you, the shops in NYC are a treat for the senses. Everything just gleams! It's like walking into a fairytale! This time, I found myself wandering through the streets of SoHo. I confess, I almost spent an entire afternoon in Anthropologie. It's my weakness. My tutu wouldn't let me down, however. My little pink number made it possible to spot the best pink dresses, skirts and, you guessed it, tutus! (Every girl needs a backup tutu, just in case, you know!)
Of course, a trip to New York wouldn’t be complete without visiting the quintessential department store, Bloomingdale’s. That shop is an entire city unto itself! There are endless rows of sparkly dresses and glittering heels – heaven for a girl like me. While I was tempted by the array of stunning, designer-brand shoes, my trusty pink tutu steered me toward the elegant, stylishly casual clothes they offered. It was a perfect compromise, allowing me to keep things pink without blowing my budget!
Broadway Bound and Beautiful
No trip to New York is complete without a visit to Broadway! As you all know, my passion for dance takes many forms, and a Broadway musical is just as captivating for me as a ballet performance.
This week, it was the Broadway revival of "The Sound of Music". What a classic! And it's so timeless! You might have noticed the distinct lack of pink tutus during this performance. Well, not everyone's as dedicated to pink as I am! But it did make me wonder – wouldn't it be utterly divine to see Maria von Trapp lead her children through the hills in pink tutus? A thought for next season perhaps, or perhaps we'll start a movement to bring a sprinkle of pink into this enchanting production!
Embracing the Pink Life
What I truly love about New York is how it embodies this unbridled zest for life, a genuine energy that just oozes out of every brick and corner. And pink, oh, my goodness! I feel so inspired by how they wear their colour. Bold, brave, bright and playful. It was incredible to walk down the streets of NYC and see a whole range of people rocking different shades of pink: from bright cherry red lips to a blush of colour in a flowing dress. Pink, it seems, truly transcends all ages and walks of life. I can't help but feel like I've been given an injection of joy and a sense of purpose. I mean, if even the most stoic New Yorker can embrace the playful power of pink, it shows how the world really needs more pink!
My mission is getting the world to wear pink tutus one person at a time, and trust me, NYC gave me some seriously inspiring material for my next few posts! Keep your eyes peeled for the latest Pink Tutu blog! Until next week, remember: life’s more fun when you wear pink!
Much Love,
Emma
